Got the Tonverk recently, and I’m still not sure what to think about the built-in effects. So I tried hooking it up to my iPad Pro and using one of the send channels as an external effects processor over USB in AUM, mainly with third-party plugins like Unfiltered Audio, Audio Damage, and FabFilter.
I managed to route the audio over USB by setting TV Track 13 to output CD , and in AUM selecting USB 3+4 as the input. I can get the processed audio back into the Tonverk, but I can’t figure out how to route it to the destination channel I want—it always seems to end up on the main mix bus. To be honest, the routing feels a bit confusing. Wouldn’t it make more sense to have all the inputs and outputs under the Routing page?
Another issue is that AUM doesn’t seem to receive an external clock for some reason, which makes using delay effects tricky. I’m also getting pretty noticeable latency when using multiple third-party plugins, and I can’t find any way to compensate for it on either the Tonverk or the iPad.
Has anyone had success with a similar setup? I can see a lot of potential if I can get everything working properly. Also, is there any way to charge the iPad while using it over USB?

You use the SRC page on Mix Track 16 to set the external input destination.
L and R can go to separate destinations, in which case you’d pan to center.
Or if the return from the iPad is stereo, send both to the same destination and pan L/R.
re external clock, have you told the Tonverk to send clock, in MIDI Config / Sync? It’s off by default.
Yup, aum likes to be a master.
Aum have latency compensation, check settings
And yes you can charge ipad using a usb hub that has charging port.
Don’t have tonverk, but routing dt2 it’s always main out(until we get overbridge for ipad).
Tonverk yet have to get Overbridge for pc/mac/Linux.
I think if your not sure about the onboard effects tonverk might not be it for you. The entire point seems to be to get layers of midi or lfo controlled fx between the two slots on each instrument, two slots on each bus, and a final slot on the master. They have talked about plans for overbridge on ipad eventually so maybe your workflow might be supported in the future but for now it seems futile to avoid half of the features of the box.

I agree part of the attraction, a big part for tonverk is the amount of onboard effects and amazing things you can do without needing complex routing and pedalboards. The second set of outs is useful for a hardware fx loop or tracking out melodic and drum components separately to a mixer.
Otherwise I’d advise to wait for overbridge if you want external audio processing per track

Yes, I have TV set to send clock over USB. As kokosnuss mentioned, it might be that AUM needs to be the master clock for it to work this way.
I’m used to working with modular synthesizers and running sounds through Ableton Live or analog gear for processing, so that’s the workflow I’m most familiar with. I’m sure Overbridge will open up a lot of possibilities down the road. I also think I just need to spend more time with the onboard effects and get a better feel for what they can do.
Yeah AUM sadly doesn’t support syncing to external midi clock. You could use something like Audiobus or Link to midi app for this and then sync AUM to it using Ableton Link. Or just use some other AUv3 host that supports midi sync.
