Using a Magnet with the Syntakt

Probably a stupid question. Would a small but stronger magnet interfere with Syntakt electronics if placed on the front panel?

Lately I’ve been using the Syntakt more and more as a poly synth, and the only thing that gets annoying is that I have to hold the TRK button consistently when making changes, therefore I want to fix this by attaching a small magnet to hold the TRK key down for me.

Just use a block of cheese. Then you’ll have a tasty snack at the end of your jam!

Now I have to research which cheese is the stickiest!

you just rub a magnet on the cheese first, then the cheese itself becomes magnetized.

This is what’s known as the 2 curds with one tone solution.

You may want to take a look at Époisses. It should be perfect for the purpose.

Is that safe to eat? I don’t want my insides to get magnetically tangled tangled up

just don’t add any additional iron to your diet and you’ll be fine.

in all seriousness a magnet should be fine, there’s no electricity in the chassis and nothing on the syntakt is microphonic. you could just as easily wedge a little folded piece of a business card or other heavy paper which passes over the top and tucks in on either side of the track button. might look a little wonky but it’s cheap and non polarized.

Just don’t get it near the screen. I’m unsure about OLED but CRT panels get wrecked by magnets.

Source: Was a curious kid at one point, had a box of magnets and a CRT monitor.

Thanks!

I was thinking more it could affect the analogue circuitry, but I guess a very strong magnet would be needed for that.

Noted, with thanks!

I do understand the concern, an EMP is on a whole other level of magnitude from the kind of magnetism you’re dealing with though.

Apparently, after a quick Google, OLEDs are magnet safe! Guess that makes sense with magnetic cases on phones now :).

Friends and I would do that: “what colours will it go?” (usually magenta, or green)

I’ve heard of the two turds with one cone solution, but that doesn’t seem appropriate for the OP’s use case. Very innovative, @shigginpit!

Edit to clarify:
The solution I’m describing is comparing two equally shitty snares through an Avantone MixCube.

I am appreciating the humor in this thread.

But for the OP, not sure how your ST is set up (flat, rack-mounted), but I have seen at least one person use little weights like this to latch buttons on the Digis. Maybe you could more easily move it than a magnet and place next to the button as well when not latching.

I bet there are flat magnets that cover the area neatly. And maybe one can add a thin layer of felt, so it won’t scratch up the Syntakt …

Or… :cheese:

It comes pre-sliced for a reason!

can we get a vegan option on the menu?

how about nori?

@Gral_Kerkila How are you using the Syntakt as a poly synth?

What is this tomfoolery?
