And I just see you have page loop on DT2, so it make even easier to make sample chop with start point. Just loop the page and adjust the start points.

How are the effects compared between the two? Does anyone have both that can compare them? Would love to see a detailed comparison video of similar features and workflows between the two.

Had to correct this :
DT2 : +/- 5 octaves
OT1 : +/- 1 octave

OT effects definitely show their age I’d say. Especially the delay and reverb are way better on the digis imo. They sound a lot more modern and hifi, the delay has a real stereo ping pong for example. That being said, OT effects have their character which many like and prefer to the digis.

I think I prefer the lofi effects like bit reduction on OT to DT. Comb filter on OT also sounds cooler to me than DT II demos, but that’s just a first impression. And there’s just a lot more effects and options for FX on OT. For example, you can deactivate tape effect on the delay so that there’s no pitch artifacts when changing time. No such option on the digis. I’d suggest you just listen to demos of the FX and trust your ears if you like things like OT dark reverb.

And keep in mind that the power of OT is that you can assign all of these FX parameters to scenes and 3 LFOs. The FX become tools for weird sound design. And they’re not send/return effects like on the digis, meaning you can e.g. set different delay times for each track.

Flipside: only two FX per audio track and filter is an effect. So if you want to use the filter, you only have one effect slot left. Unless you sacrifice an audio track by making it a neighbor track.

In all this “A is better than B” discussion, we all shouldn’t forget, that peoples preferences are widely different. I am sure there are tons out there, that prefer the OT Reverb and Delays over the modern ones (I am not, btw.). And I am not only talking about the people that create the music.

I haven’t seen/heard it being pushed too hard in the demos but I had a play with it yesterday when my DT2 arrived and it goes to much further places than the OT comb filter. Its pretty wild

how are people feeling about this after some months of the DTII being out?

I have been learning the OT this year, I am loving it, I might try the DTII out tho to see how it goes, it’d be nice to use them side by side.

Before DN2 I would have said I prefer OT Comb Filters because they can be positive or negative, and you can combine 2 comb filters and get much more interesting fx.

The strength of Digi2s with comb filters is filter key tracking. I hope DT2 with benefits from DN2 comb+…
I used a midi processor for key tracking with OT.

DN2 advantages are to have envelope pre AND post filter with FM DRUM, and pre / post choice for secondary BW filter…

I didn’t change my mind.
But I will probably use DN2 more than DT2 or OT.

Yeah I can imagine that, I think I’m going to order the DN2 and get into that first. Then try the DT2 probably at a much later date.

I’ve been watching the recent OT videos on Elektron’s YouTube channel and it really does bring into focus what an incredible machine it is.

I think until ‘proper’ slicing is implemented on the DT2 the Octatrack will be the winner in terms of samplers.

I read through this thread and I’m just surprised that the gulf (huge big gigantic gulf) between the two in terms of performance isn’t emphasised more.

Pre slicing and pre-trig locking samples, resampling on the fly, multiple inputs, scenes, parts. And all while the sequencer is running! All these years later I can’t think of any machine that is so unique (even in software).

I love the sound of the DT2 - that’s a big improvement and has ended up replacing a lot of gear for me. The effects sound better for certain (but having two effects per track on the OT is a big deal too). Great to have 16 tracks - in glorious stereo!

So I’m not bashing the DT2 at all - have one and love it. It’s amazing.

I’ve never particularly enjoyed sampling on the Octatrack, don’t hate it, don’t love it. The workflow is so much nicer on the DT2, but once you have your samples in your set/project - there’s simply no competition.

I think it’s often been remarked upon - to use the modern parlance (!) - ‘If you know you know’ - but when you get fluid with the octatrack it feels like you’re a wizard - it’s such a joyous instrument to play. And I think the learning curve is nowhere near as difficult as its reputation…

If you want a great sounding sampler with a great sequencer to play back samples and programme parts the DT2 is amazing - but for me Octatrack is still just on another level.

I bought an OT a few months ago. Coming from a DT background, I found the OT much easier to use than expected. The sound is transparent, the timestretch is decent and the scenes are great. I particularly enjoy using green trigs on long samples that gets progressively chopped when the crossfader moves. Hard to explain. However, I don’t feel as productive as with DT. I often load long samples and mangle them on different scenes, then aimlessly switch from one scene to another.
What I miss from the DT : The pitch change isn’t nearly as effective and the effects are not as good (especially srr, br and overdrive).
The DT allows me to compose faster, while the OT seems to be a fun machine for mangling stems.
