Urgent: nvram restore failed

Dear Community,

Today I turned on my Analog Four II and the screen showed this error message: NVRAM RESTORE FAILED! All of the kits/sounds were lost. Factory ones and also mine.

I googled how to fix it, and it suggested to update OS via Transfer. So I did. The error message has now gone but all kits remain empty.

Does anyone know about this? I always work with Overbridge Plugin in Ableton Live running. Will I be able to restore my sounds through overbridge?

if you don’t have backups on your computer it’s very unlikely that you’ll be able to restore them from the ram, you can try contacting support and see if it’s possible to do anything about it, you can try factory reset to restore factory content but this will wipe any trace of your input

There are chances the battery that keeps your RAM alive is depleted.

To anyone reading this line: IT’S TIME FOR A BACKUP!

As far as I know, A4 does not have/use internal battery, like OT for example. Found Ess post from 2019.

NVRAM is the non-volatile memory (retains data without power) and this message means that whatever was in the NVRAM could not be loaded correctly. It has nothing to do with a battery (nor does Analog Four use one), but the project data is (most likely) lost forever.

The project state is stored in NVRAM while it’s active, but it’s important to also regularly save your project to not have any form of data loss like this. That the state fails to load is unusual, but regardless the “unsaved” state is much more prone to loss than a saved project.

Not sure if this is indicative of a hardware fault or not, could be many factors – can’t hurt to reach out to support to be sure.

@alechko @LyingDalai @Kammo @Ess Thanks a lot for taking the time to share your thoughts and knowledge with me  I really appreciate it (you guys were definitely faster than support) I’ve opened a ticket, and I’ll let you know if they give any solution that might be useful for the community. In the worst scenario, I guess they’ll suggest to reset factory kits and re-synthesize the self-made patches I lost (lucky me, I’m a recent user and these were only a few sounds. All my MIDIs are in Ableton Live). Lesson learned, I’ll backup everything from now on (I didn’t even know Transfer app existed)
