As I’ve used my Push 3 once in standalone mode since June, I’ve been looking at downgrading to the controller version.
Does anyone know if it’s possible to take out the Standalone pieces ( which you get with the upgrade kit) to turn it into the controller version? Feels like it would make more sense than buying a whole new unit!
ah, I thought about the weight too but if it’s used as a controller then it would probably be stationary anyway, so less then 1kg difference is imo not that much for stationary gear.
I thought there’s other factors that makes standalone to act differently as a controller.
btw, is there second hand market for the upgrade kit?
Financially speaking, removing the standalone parts and selling them could be financially better compared with selling the standalone and buying a new controller. You‘d get around $1500USD minus fees on reverb or eBay. And new controller cost around $999. So after fees, taxes, VAT, etc. you might end up with something like $300 in your pocket (depending on where you live).
No idea how much the upgrade kit goes for on the secondhand market but even if it’s just a few hundred dollars it could be easier and give you either a comparable amount of money or slightly more.
I wonder if there’s any serialization where the kit inside of a SA is locked to the rest of the hardware. Some form of DRM. I don’t think anyone has tried doing this yet, would be interesting to find out.
I do think that it would probably be easier to just sell the standalone and pick up a controller though than it would be to try and sell a second hand kit.
Yeh I think this might be the issue - the standalone would need removing from my account and turning into the controller. And visa versa for the buyer.
There’s a line on the upgrade kit page about registering your kit with Ableton.
To the questions above, it’s to free up cash for a module. I love push but standalone hasn’t clicked for me. Feels like reinvesting the money is a good move as it’s effectively a controller for me.
