Ultimate Bassline synth

Just think of it as an OT, but you can actually see the waveforms you’re editing.

Oof, I’ve never heard of this but it made me shiver a little bit just reading about it!

…in hardware…moogs minitaur…rolands sh2…all nordleads…
…in software…bitwigs phase4/polymer/polygrid…

in fact, i always loved mr. oizos basslines on his analog wormland album the most of them all…
his fad gritty dust growling lowest octave lines were THE fad of all land to me…
and guess what, the first time i really got that vibe finally under my fingers for real was, with bitwigs phase 4…

but end of all days, lowest octave translation, aka THE bass line, comes with right key deliverance, in the right overall arrangement and most essentially with the actual notes it plays, it’s pattern…
if u got that right, pretty much anything can be mutated into a great bass line sound…
in case of any doubts, a little bit analog heat can always fix whatever u got…

I am leanimg hard toward getting Erica Synths DB01 and Pwm malevolent.

DB-01 is brilliant. Quite simple in many ways, it has a unique voice that it can’t stray too far from, but that core sound is just so juicy. The FM gets heavy as well. The LFO to filter modulation with the various waves that visualise across the keys is genius.

this sync phase sounds cool, but no where in existence is the Mac Editor for me to even try this :frowning:

I got a Peak recently to be my main polysynth and I was very pleased by its mono bass capacities. Just great, so versatile and powerfull.

Every poly I’ve tried does good bass, I’ve used OB6, Rev2 and Nymphes. The OB6 was borrowed, I had to sell the Rev2 and the Nymphes covers my limited Poly needs (due to whack keyboard skills).
When you start stacking voices with a Dreadbox filter…mmmmm.

just came across a BRIGHTER THAN A THOUSAND SUNS video on fb
The guy plays serious electro / synthpop basslines in realtime and
and also tells which synths he stacks to achieve the sound. Could be inspiring for some here…

The Peak and the Take 5 are the only polys I’ve used that are so nice sounding for bass that I would actually chose them over monosynths regularly and I found that the Peak was able to do anything I ever used the T5 for so it’s the only one I kept but it really is an absolutely phenomenal bass machine. Being able to mix a little wavetable and some FM in with that filter is ::chefs kiss:: and I love the way its delay sounds on a thumpy bassline.

All that said I think the SE-02 is an evil little creature and usually it’s my go-to, but I’ve had a bunch of monosynths that were so good and for me much better than a 303. Minibrute, SE-02, AS-1, Uno Pro X, all of them can go hard as hell.

I would recommend the msw820 from michi synth works, but the dude is leaving a sour taste in my mouth. Two blown regulators on the unit and he straight up ghosted communications with me while continuing to chit chat away on discord.

With the MS20 filter and wavetables, Hydrasynth is great for bass. Plus 3 osc. Same with the PRO3, 3 osc with 3rd osc as wavetables.

Also nominate OpSix with the MS20 filter option for FM bass

I would say the Sequential Fourm is really good at basslines.

Were you not able to connect with him on Discord?

I did, he was super responsive the first time around when the regulator failed. Sending a return label was super fast, like within minutes of the convo about it. Turnaround was super quick–he got my unit in and within an hour had it shipped back out. We had an email convo and he mentioned another unit had also come in with the same issue and that the regs might be a bad batch.

Then I got my unit back, hooked up the adafruit usb-c w/ inline on/off and it blew the regulator again. The inIine meets the specs needed to power the synth–whatever regulator he used is weak unfortunately. He sounded frustrated that it blew again. I asked if there was a way to add a rocker switch so I don’t have to push and pull the usb-c in and out everytime I want to turn it off, and if not I’ll just use his usb-c that he provides. I never heard back. So I sent another email the following day asking for a return label. Guy never responded.

Finally get a return label the following Monday (the last comms were Wed/Thurs) and sent it off. No ‘hey got your unit in’ or any other comms. I’m waiting till next week to see if he ships out Monday otherwise I’ll let it be known on discord, but I’m not going to chase someone down when I already know his responsiveness from the first time around. It’s a super fast fix. Ghosting customers/ignoring them is a no-no

A moog of some sort. Currently liking the Messenger, but I also am a fan of the Minitaur and Sub Phatty. The Messenger can just do so many more things due to more octaves, oscillators and modulation options. Plus it can do the bass wubs really nicely if that is your thing, and the folded triangles sound sick. Really opens up the sonic possibilities.

I definitely prefer monos for bass, but if all I had was a good poly, I’d be ok.

The Grp A1 is a powerful Bass synth. Not cheap but with a great monophonic Sound. For me on of my favorits for good baselines.

I’ve owned a Sequential Take 5 for a couple years now. While it can do bass, I don’t recommend buying it for that purpose. I would personally be disappointed.

I love using the Majella Implexus for bass. It’s tasty!

Vermona - PerFOURmer, 14, 24, whatever.
