I’m one of those people that’s not into the weapon term. Not due to some benevolent sensibility exactly, but it’s a silly term. Anyway, if you ARE into that, then you must buy a Grendel Grenadier!!!

I am generally against the casual overuse of martial and military metaphors, but when Moby retooled Mission of Burma’s “That’s When I Reach For My Revolver” as “That’s When I Realize It’s Over”, it made me, well, want to reach for my revolver (I do not have one, have never fired a real gun).

Hehe!!! In no way was I suggesting that! Someone else brought up “secret weapon” in the “words that meh you out” thread, and after some thought, I was thinking it’s a little overdone. I know why people use it though. It’s their go-to in their productions. Which is totally cool! I just don’t really use it on a regular basis myself. Can’t say I’ve ever used it, but you never know.

I don’t particularly like revisionism myself either. If you say something that comes to mind and it’s not absolutely tasteless or something, then that’s probably what you meant in the first place. No need to change it out just because someone else has different tastes in phrasing.
I mean, I love different portrayals of topics. Huge NIN, FLA, SP fan for example. No shortage of violent imagery in their music, yet done in a masterful, artful, way that portrays it in a certain negative non-glorified way (even if sometimes in ironic ways).
I don’t like telling anyone how to think or speak unless maybe it’s hateful or bullying or something. Then I occasionally have something to say.
I also play id Software games, watch 80’s action and sci-fi horror (think Alien for example).
I’m not a violent person, but don’t mind it in the right context. Big fan of Cyberpunk genres too. (Gibson, games, etc.)
I’m a fan of the right context for anything.
The wording wasn’t offensive. Just not my thing, (was all I was saying).

I hope the title wasn’t changed on my account. My comments were not meant to spur that action.
The title is fine without that word. And, yeah, these notions are too firmly embedded in the culture to be absolutist about them. But the more we can move away from them, the better (not talking about movies or books that try to examine these phenomena for ultimate benefit). We need words to talk about powerful music, and it can be hard to separate power from violence, but maybe we can avoid violence intentionally directed at other humans. Thunder, lightning, hurricane, earthquake, volcanoes, meteor impact, still potentially fraught, but much less so than a gun or a punch.

Well said. Today though, especially in the US we need more punching and less shooting.
Sad thing to say obviously, but if words can’t settle it, then fisticuffs are preferred over guns and knives, etc.

Off topic but have you considered a Solar 42? It has Dual Polivoks Filters. I know it’s expensive but you seem to like these kind of Synths (like the Lyra-8).

I’ve always had my eye on the solar 50, I think it’s a much better execution of the idea.
The 42 looks like they listened way too much to customer feedback and there’s just way too much going on for me.
I prefer the simplicity of the 50, it looks like a proper instrument, not some weird groove box bullshit.

Do you use a midi controller with your laptop or just mouse it?
Not at the minute, I’m not much of a player, so keys are wasted on me.
I’ll be using Max and Remorse for all my notes and triggers for the foreseeable.

Remorse is clearly a great option for making music. Marginally ahead of Renoise in effectiveness.
