UK synth repair recommendations

Hi folks

On the lookout for recommendations for a UK based synth repair place/person. My TG33 is in desperate need of a new screen as its now barely visible (apart from at certain angles, weirdly) and the internal battery could probably do with a replacement as I dont think the previous owner ever changed it, and he had it for nearly 30 years… All reccomendations welcome. Happy to send it to anywhere in the UK, but not EU (for obvious reasons :pensive:)

thanks : )

Where in UK are you based?

Cardiff

Oh, I think there are a few places in Bristol, but not sure of any closer:

Or in Suffolk if you don’t mind courier:

Oh yeh courier is fine just as long as its within UK, and preferably if they can be recommended. But Bristol is fine, thats a fun day trip anyway and not far at all. That Bristol address looks familar- are they anything to do with Elevator Sound at all? I think they are on Stokes Croft too iirc

Not sure, possibly I know there is quite a hotbed of music related businesses in that area. I don’t have any first hand experience with them though, I do with synthprof though.

Probably best to email them all and get a quote, prices can vary a bit, I do know synthprof to be fairly reasonable with prices.

Ace, will do. Cheers for that!

If this is who I think it is, he has the workspace above elevator sound (but not directly part of the shop). Not a customer, but there is a Bristol synth diy group he is in and he’s a decent chap! Definitely get in touch with him…

There are definitely a few music-related synth businesses in that area

I was looking at whats left of the synth repair options in the South West and South Wales. As i have Juno 106 and still am toying with passing to someone to do the Kiwi 106 upgrade plus if i need it servicing again. I noticed the electrofix have move to near Blackwood in Wales. Has anyone ever used them for a repair as the reviews here are pretty bad…

There is this guy in Bristol: Bristol Synth | About

I had used Andy from EMIS up by Gloucester but he has now retired.

I’m also looking for someone to do some work on a Rhodes Mk2 and Revox B77. If anyone has some ideas.

Thanks.

Had a bad experience with Electrofix but that was about 20 years ago

Send your broken gear to me. I will recycle it into a piece of modern art.

another option that has worked for me has been hka designs, harry is very good and did the m202 Tubbutec retro fit for me which is a difficult one!

Try mr beep boop above elevator, but when he repaired my 606 last year, he did announce on his Instagram that that was his last repair so that he could focus on doing his module making.

What was the bad experience?

Yep Jack from Beepboop has stopped doing repairs to concentrate on module making.

Thanks but to far East for me. I’m in Swansea.

External SCSI drive on E6400 ultra kept causing crashes.
Swapped leads and drive also checked my leads and drive with a a friend’s identical unit. Definitely not cables or drive.

During this time I read an article about those 50 pin connectors being iffy sometimes.
I can’t remember if I could actually see a loose joint or what but I was 99% certain the connector needed re soldering.

I sent it in, telling them this and it came back with a new SCSI lead and the old one taped up with ‘faulty’ written on it.

I honesty can’t remember what happened next but it did get resoldered and was perfect after.

Was most annoying I think was we had gigs lined up and I had to borrow a unit off another mate.

That doesn’t sound that bad tbh but it was infuriating at the time
