Uk - music matter vs thomann?

Hi, ive used thomann a number of times for 15 years now (i think i haven’t bought something after the brexit rules are in place).

So, thomann has this 3 year warranty etc and I recently found that music matter in the uk offers a similar 3 year warranty.

Im thinking of getting a DT2. Any comments on Music Matter and/or other stores?

Thanks

I’ve bought a few things from Music Matter (monitors, stands, etc) and always been happy with the service, fast delivery. I’ve never had to return anything though or deal with their support so can’t comment on that :slightly_smiling_face:

I’ve bought a few things from them and it was fine.

Again never had to do returns though.

Have used both. The main thing to know is that returns are subject to EU customs with Thomann. This makes a difference in the event that you need to return something, or if you need it replacing via the warranty.

I did a return via Thomann, and it took a painfully long time to process including getting it charged back to the card (iir around 2-3 months!) Nothing wrong with the service itself, it’s just it takes longer with UK being outside the EU. Music Matter is a bit smaller and slightly more personal, especially if you have to deal with support, and you’re only sending stuff inside the UK which I assume takes less time to resolve.

They’re both decent companies imo.

Of the two I have only ever used Thomann and bought quite a bit since 2020, not had any problems with them including deliveries of quite large items. No doubt Music Matter are decent too, but not always got what I want in stock, and their prices can be on the high side.

they’ve been helpful with me in that regard, no concerns

That’s fair. Thomann are very good on price, which can make the decision easier.

doesn‘t Elektron have a 3 year factory warranty as well?

Thomann, Music Matter and Elektron have a 3-year warranty. From my experience, Thomann is very reliable and the prices are reasonable. Personally, I would buy it directly from Elektron if it were in stock.

I’ve used Music Matter a few times and they are my preferred shop for most items, price dependent.

I have returned an item. it looked like DPD had walked/stamped on a Microfreak I bought from them and it was a hassle free replacement after sending them pics. The Trust Pilot ratings back up the store too as 1 of, if not the best music store here, but they don’t have the largest selection of stock and certainly can’t compete with Thomann in that dept.

Also, if you are a UK resident, then wouldn’t it make more sense to buy from a UK store and have the taxes you pay go towards UK services, like the NHS, welfare, schools, roads etc? Thinking about it though, I expect Thomann do pay the UK taxes and any duty on your behalf, but still, supporting local obviously puts more money into the local economy, so it’s still a partially valid point.

thanks you all for the comments.

  1. prices are similar between Thomann and MMatter and that was what prompted me to want to go the local MMatter. (after I realised both give 3 years W)
  2. I didnt know Elektron give 3 years.
  3. Now, buying local is indeed “the better thing to do” but at the moment it seems that some of the old EU regulations with warranty might be a bit off. Other shops seem to imply even less than a year of warranty (then its up to use to prove it was fault etc, Im no barrister) FYI, thomann and all UKVAT registered shops pay directly the UK tax so they can ship without going though customs. (Aliexpress probably cheats :stuck_out_tongue: )
  4. last time I check direct from elektron is 40ish quid more ? (maybe im wrong)

Thanks you all, Ill probably go with Music Matter as it will be easier with local customer support

Andertons in the UK has the same price on DT II as Music Matter (according to Google). I use Andertons the most out of all of them. Very decent service.

I used Music Matter for the 1st time last month and was quick dispatch and received next day, I later decided to return the item without issue…although the refund did take a couple weeks. Communication was all good though email.

I’ve used Thomann too, never returned anything and packages take a week to arrive.

Okay try the acid test. Phone up with a complaint and see how quickly you get a response. Or just you need help.

…end of the day, purchase as “locally” as u can…and if it’s 10 or 20 quit price difference, don’t fall for it, if u don’t absolutely have to count each single dime/penny/euro…

Music Matter is my local bricks and mortar store. Never had to return but great store, with friendly, knowledgable staff, and great service.

good to know that for locals the MM store is fun to shop at!

If you’re in the UK, support local small(er) UK businesses where you can.

That is unless you want to live in a Thomann/Amazon-only world in the future.

(I don’t mean this as an exclusively UK thing either… wherever you are, it’s good to support your smaller local business.)
