i read the manual a couple of times now and couldn’t find answers to these. maybe they’re features that simply do not exist (yet) but maybe i’m simply missing something.
very often i copy a pattern to an empty slot and want to for example have a hp filter on the kicks for that pattern. is it possible to change a parameter for all the trigs of a certain track of a pattern? otherwise i’d have to change it for every trig individually, which can be quite a lot with 64 steps.
is it possible to copy just one page of the sequencer? if this isn’t a feature, then how do i make a complicated set of trigs on one page (while there already being four pages) repeat over all the four?
If the steps in the sequence aren’t p-locked, then you can simply change the parameter for the whole track. If you have p-locked the steps, then your best option (other than manually editing them all) is to record the new values in live recording mode - the previous values will be overwritten.
It is. Hold the [PAGE] button and hit the REC button. This will copy the active page. [PAGE] & STOP to paste it.
the problem with live recording is, that you always have to move the encoder in order for it to get recorded, which doesn’t help at all for certain parameters.

Like mentioned above, you simply edit your hi-pass filter on the new pattern and all the trigs playing that sound will be filtered. If you have p-locks on some trigs you will have to edit those yourself.

Copy and paste of pages (and most other stuff) doesn’t work!
I have reported this to Elektron but have no response as of yet. [/quote]
This is extremely annoying. I hope they fix it soon.
I created a very cumbersome workaround. In GRID mode you can press FUN + the RIGHT and LEFT arrows and move the track triggers accordingly. Then just put them on the page you want.
It’s far from a good substitution. Does anyone else have a better workaround?
While we’re on the sequencer subject, is it possible to “shrink” the whole pattern in BOTH directions? For example, I know you can reduce the amount of steps in the SCALE menu, but this goes towards the beginning . Is it possible to go towards the end? (This might help for a workaround for above.)
If you wanted to keep just page 4 of pattern, you could copy it to page 1 and then shrink it to 1 bar long ?[/quote]
Uhhh…that’s kind of…disappointing…and confusing.
The problem is part of what is being discussed here: page copy/paste isn’t working.

Indeed, it is. I, as well, would love more intricate sequencer features, but then again, one should get a Cirklon for those types of goodies.
The copy / paste issue is certainly a thorn in one’s side, along with all the other bugs and unfinished features of the AR right now. Let’s keep the pressure up so that Elektron don’t rest on their laurels too much
A single track page may also be copied, pasted and cleared. It is similar to copying/pasting/clearing a track, but
will only affect the active track page. GRID RECORDING mode needs to be active. Select the track page of
choice by pressing the [PAGE] key. Copy by pressing [PAGE] + [REC]. Select a new track page and press
[PAGE] + [STOP] to paste. Undo by pressing [PAGE] + [STOP] again. Press [PAGE] + [PLAY] to clear the
active track page. Undo the operation by repeating the button presses.
Trigs, complete with all parameter lock settings, can be copied, pasted and cleared as well. GRID RECORDING
mode needs to be active to access this functionality. Press and hold a trig and press [REC] to perform the copy
operation. Paste by holding another [TRIG] key and pressing [STOP]. It is also possible to copy more than one
trig. Hold several trigs and press [REC]. The trig first pressed will act as the starting point. When pasting, the
other copied trigs will be placed in relation to this trig. Paste the copied sequence of trigs by holding another
[TRIG] key and pressing [STOP]. Clear trig locks by holding one or more trigs and press [PLAY].
I am away from my AR for a few days, cant check right now.
This does not work? maybe forgot to enter GRID RECORDING?
I’m away from it too but if I remember correctly copy works but paste does not. I think somewhere else on the forum elektron said they were working on it.
I was told by Elektro support that you can not copy and paste pages. For example, I have a kick, hat, clap & snare loop playing for one bar (page 1:4) I need want to copy this whole page to (3:4). I have been told this is not possible!!!
They said you can only copy the active track between the pages. I just don’t get this. I don’t actually believe this answer and it clearly says ‘copy page’/‘paste page’
So they are saying it is a bug or it is not???
So I’m guessing that means that scene toggling cannot be sequenced internally? A HPF change would not need many scene params. Have not tested yet but have been under the assumption that scenes/performance controls can at least be externally sequenced?
dont get why limited page copy/paste is related to scene toggling.
however, you cant sequence scene toggles externally. u can remote control performance parameters 1-12, so ur HPF use case is possible (if HPF is locked to performance). u can directly remote control all params for sounds 1-12 too.
i’ve came up with the idea of a meta track that allows sequencing of non-sound parameters such as scene toggles, mutes, accent, swing, track/pattern time signatures, etc. but this is probably beyond ARs pattern scope, rather in scope of song mode. there is hope left to achieve this using external sequencing if Elektron would expose these controls for remote control.
I agree that sequencing these is a task for external sequencers.
Regarding c’n’p of pages: Yea, it s*cks that you can only copy a page of the active track.
It is possible to c’n’p the selected pages of all tracks via sysex, though.
The AR sysex interface can also be used to “change a parameter for all the trigs of a certain track of a pattern”,
or randomize the trigs, or modulate them with a software LFO, or …
(don’t hate on sysex, the AR itself can’t possibly include every conceivable pattern editing feature!)
hmm i get that it can’t have every sysex feature in its gui, but for me it’s very counter intuitive not being able to change a parameter per pattern effectively.
couldn’t there be a shortcut where you, say, press “Bank Group” and turn an encoder to lock that parameter for every trig in the pattern?
that’d sure make creating variations of patterns a lot easier. for me at least.
It could work this way but if I were Elektron I’d use the “hold bank/direct change” key event for entering a 3rd party UI mode where the AR display could temporarily be controlled by external software.
I.e. when that “hold” event occurs, the AR would send out a sysex message. External software would receive this message, and reply with a dialog UI description that the AR would parse and display the dialog.
In its most simple form, this would simply be a list of possible “actions”. A more advanced form would include dials and checkboxes.
This way the AR pattern/sound editor feature set could be extended almost endlessly.
You also wouldn’t need to look at a different screen and could use the AR hardware interface to control the external software.
just my 2c, though
p.s.: …“external software” does not mean you’d require a PC/tablet – a 10$ embedded board, tucked away in a nice case, would be enough…
