Twisted Electrons TWISTfm

Yes; i agree. I just bought the Digitone 2 at the same price, and the Dtone 2 is way, way more bang for the buck than a Twist FM is or could ever be - with the Overbridge software coming up (it´s in the testing phase) and all - 16-part multitimbrality is nothing to sneeze at, 4 machines, lots of filters and so on and so forth.
But, i also agree that for a small company, being able to sell products at a low price range is simple not possible sometimes. Which is too bad, because most people does not look for those values and does not think to support a hard-working small company, just to keep down the cost for themselves.
For myself, i can afford to buy at a higher price range, but i tend to want to get as much bang for the buck as possible, or to buy cheaper and be able to put the money “saved” into the account of my toddler instead, for future needs of my only child. So that perhaps she can buy synths aswell.

Anyway, it´s just bad luck or bad timing, i really hope the Twist sells well enough. I would like to get one, i really like the sound of it from the demos.

Continuously intrusive mental image as I read this thread.

that is unfortunate timing. i would have bought the twist also, if the dn2 hadnt been announced

Surely although they’re both FM, it’s apples and oranges?

Depending if you need a synth or a groovebox?

Personally, as I have no need for the DN2s sequencer, or multitimbrality, or overbridge, I’d rather have this… all the sliders, the ribbon, mpe, analog filters.

Guess it depends on what you need. I don’t really see them competing much though!

I have the TwistFM on preorder and i also bought the DNII because I was lucky to have sold some stuff just before. But right now I’m thinking hard what to do. I listened again to the demo of TwistFM and I as a stand alone synth with all these parameters and possibilities with hands on control I don’t think you can get that kind of joy with the DNII. But it’s definitely not easy now because the DNII is such a perfect machine and has great FM.

I think it’s a bit strange to compare them because, price apart, they don’t have much in common

DN2 will never sound like a Twist though, bang for the buck or no. That’s a good thing.

Not long to go now… at least I’m hoping it will be delivered now in December

New video just dropped on YouTube

True; many see DN2 as a groovebox. Why? It’s just a synth with additional functions! Ok, its got a sequencer and a set of drum sounds but that is kind of basic these days.
Overbridge does not make it any more groovebox-y, it’s just an additional interface plus the multiple streaming via usb which is totally rad…
I think rather the TFM is a bit less than average these days, what it offers is kind of limited so to me it’s just a synth. Like a one-trick-pony, albeit it can repeat the trick multiple times.

Anyway, i still would like to have the TFM but the gas is gone, almost.
I guess that if i can build a few more megacommand units for the machinedrum i might be able to afford it.

I received mine yesterday and I’m totally in love with it. Really makes a huge difference to have these nice filters and direct controls. The ribbon is nice but not sure I will use it much. Pairs really well with my OXI One but I really wish I had an MPE controller right now.

One more. Love it more and more… maybe honeymoon but still

A month? I had it for a week

Haven’t had lots of time with it but I really like it a lot. I think that it would be really nice to have a proper MPE controller to really use all of it’s features. Here are a couple of more videos.

Edit: I realised you probably meant the DNII and I love it

Hard to say because they are so completely different. TWISTfm I prefer for making “plying” and creating sounds hand on and it has beautiful filters and DNII for percussion and just making tracks. But both are great and I would not say that one make the other obsolete. :relaxed:

Anyone here have both the MFM and Twist? I’m wondering how the build quality compares, and if the Twist feels like you get that much more of a synth? The price difference is quite substantial. I love my MFM but it does feel like I could break it easily. Superficially speaking, is the Twist comparable?

I think the MFM’s build quality is quite solid, at least I haven’t had any issues with my (MKI) for years. Twistfm is comparable when it comes to the faders but uses different switches.

The sound differs quite a lot, though. I use the MEGAfm mostly for old school Dub Techno and IDM. TWISTfm is covering that areas, too, but is overall less aggressive and with much less noise. It wouldn’t replace my MEGAfm as it sound is quite unique. But if one would only be interested in one hands-on-FM-synth, I’d rather recommend the TWISTfm as it checks more boxes and the analog filters sound great.

If you’re into Rhythm and Sound, Basic Channel etc., you might be (a bit) happier with the MEGAfm but keep in mind that it needs additional effects to really shine.
