Hi, I’m trying to upgrade my MD to the newest X.05A firmware and it’s taking me forever.
So I decided to take the TM-1 out for a use for the first time
I connected TM-1 to my macbook, both in/out to machinedrum, switched on Turbo mode (LED stays on), and started the transfer
However, I do not see a noticeable difference in transmission speed at all
It’s still taking forever to upload this 1.7mb of sysex data
When I check the transmit speed on Sysex Librarian settings, it shows up as 100%, 3125 Bytes/Sec.
Is this a normal behavior?
or am I doing something wrong?
I made a discovery this morning while updating my MD with Sysex Librarian through TM-1, and it’s simply game changing for me.
So far I had been tweaking the Sysex Librarian parameters and most of the time the connection with MD would fail, until I reboot things again.
The thing I have identified today is that
you have to activate TURBO mode only once you’ve set Sysex Librarian parameters.
This is certainly obvious for many people that have used the TM-1, but in 8 years of use it had never crossed my mind
Better late than never I guess.
During this TURBO mode negotiation, parameters are most likely exchanged, which would explain why, when I had set TURBO mode BEFORE settings Sysex Lib parameters, it would fail.
If you’ve touched SysLib parameters (transmit speed, transmit buffer size, pause between played message and possibly sysex receive timeout), simply deactivate and reactivate TURBO mode to enforce a new negotiation.
I have managed to use the TM-1 with full speed, backuping my projects and updating to X10 within a few minutes where it would take me ages before!
Thanks!
The whole X10 firmware seems awesome, but I’ve been a bit hesitant due to slow transfer speeds for backing up etc (maybe I’m just precious about it and overthinking though…)
Didn’t TM-1 + turbo mode would work with Silicone Macs so that would be great news!
