Tuning the OT ring modulator

That would be very generous! Your 2x spreadsheets have come in handy, been experimenting with those, but taking it slow. Got mine late 2024 and I’m in no hurry. Do you use OctaChainer (Link)? Any other PC software for the OT I should know about? Thanks again.

Which is which? Listened several times, cannot tell. Wouldn’t the one with more low end be Lofi AM (or is it actually RM?).

For RM yes.
Not for AM.
So I think OT manual description is wrong…

AMF controls the modulation frequency of the amplitude modulator. The amplitude modulator is essentially a volume control which is controlled by a low frequency oscillator.

I’m sure there is a communication flaw somewhere between devs and manual writer…
Or devs implemented a ring modulator thinking it was AM…

I don’t use Octachainer - I’m weird in that I have almost no samples on my OT. I’m more into live looping or sequencing stuff.

I am very excited about the Octatrack Manager project manager. It has so much potential.

Track 1 is Lofi “AM” (RM)

Track 2 is unipolar triangle LFO on Vol made with Lfo designer to make it 8 times faster. Max frequency lower than Lofi “AM” (I used 206 bpm tempo).

That’s interesting to think about.

Let’s assume you made the LFO go from 0 to --128 and pointed it at volume at 0 (I think Amp VOL ranges from -64 to 63).

Perspective 1: That’s unipolar, reducing volume from 0.
Perspective 2: That’s bipolar, increasing/decreasing volume from -32.
Perspective 3: That’s unipolar, increasing volume from -64.

I guess the way to think about that is as amplitude modulation and the three different perspectives change the offset (and the phase). But they’re all equivalent.

Perspective 3 ! I set Vol to -64.
But you can get same results with the 3 perspectives…

So you can combine AM, RM, and Comb Filters !

Saw thru ring mod. Beautiful phase inversion ! (No sound)

Yep! Moog Subsequent 37. OT has two recording buffers looping (26 and 42 trigs long at 65.6 bpm). Ring mods on neighbor tracks that process each pass of the loops. The neighbor tracks are 16 trigs long and have a few ring mod settings that they go through. Fun!

I didn’t do any lower. I can put together a table of the tremolo values, though I’ll need a non-tuner based approach to test them.
