Trigger audio sample of the **active track** via MIDI?

I just got a Morningstar MC6 Pro MIDI pedal to control my Octatrack. I’m getting familiar with the functionality and have run into an issue trying to recreate this demo from Son Wu.

In the demo (at about 7:20), he uses two buttons to change tracks (notes 68 & 69), then he uses another button to record input AB to the selected track (note 61).

The thing I can’t figure out is: when he lets go of the record button, the recorded sample is played back on the selected track.

I see the commands to trigger samples in tracks 1-8 (notes 36-43), however what I’m after is a command that only triggers the sample on the active track. Any ideas?

You would use the same commands, but on the auto channel, which by default is ch.9 I think?

@SonWu ?
I did the same with FLEX a couple of months ago but iirc I had to use notes 36-43 @Ottava mentioned.

Edit1 : I remember now : note C6 works, but notes C5-C7 can’t be quantized. I wanted quantize rec/play. Always missing something to set OT as a proper synced live looper…

Edit2 : Track Arm CC may work if one shots are placed in the same grid as desired quantize…
The missing element? :loopy:

And thanks for the demo. This controller may interest me…

Track sample pitch 0, of course!! Yep that should do the trick. Will test later when I’m back at my studio.

Yeah at this point I’m just scratching the surface with MC6 Pro, but its power is already very apparent. Each button press can trigger something like 32 individual commands, simultaneously. And the software editor makes setting things up really easy.

I already tested before. Only way to playback just at the end of recording with active track message I think.

Thanks for asking, this gave me the idea of the one shot track arm in order to quantize rec and playback to pattern length for instance…will try tomorrow.

I think here I just made it as simple as possible and used PLAYS FREE tracks (unquantized) and triggered the SAMPLE using notes C6.
If you want something more quantized, check Yuri Wong’s tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=617yAj0cHxQ
