1.3, 1.3.1 - TRIG LEN parameter does not change the playback duration. I can inspect the value, and it displays information set by holding trig and moving the LEN parameter. But this information does not change / control playback of this trig. If I make a long trig LEN then play back, it will not play the long trig. If I record a long trig manually, it plays back with a longer duration. The voice has sustain and should playback. I also noticed that the realtime recorded long notes do not display correct values when I inspect the LEN parameter. Also, I took a long recorded trig and tried to set the LEN 1/16 and it did not alter the length during playback. So, live recorded trigs cannot be edited to change their LEN, and LEN cannot be manually edited. I assume that it is defaulting all trigs to 1/16.
I just rebooted to make sure I wasn’t in a bad state and I have tried 1.3 and 1.3.1 and the Issue persists. I Something seems quite broken here. Anyone else seeing this?
It’s defaulting to the length you set when you don’t press one or more trig keys. If you start with an init track, the default length is 1/16.
In which edit mode are you trying to change the note length?
I got confused by this as well, but you need to use step edit to change length. Or at least when there’s multiple or overlapping notes on a step it seems.
I’m not sure how we’re confused here, but for as long as I have used Elektron 10+ years. When you press and hold a trig, then navigate to the trig edit page, while pressing down any trig, changing the LEN will set the length of that trig. This does not work on my Tonverk. You can edit the value but it ignores the setting. If I record a performance in real time and long hold on a trig, it will capture a long trig, but when I try to inspect that trig (press and hold and look at trig page) it will say only the default 1/16. If I try to edit the trig nothing happens. So, it is almost like the editing of trigs and that includes setting trig LEN values do not work. I was hoping for a change in the latest update (1.3.1) but its still not functional for me.
You need to go into trig edit and then press the individual trig (lit red) on the keyboard. This is due to the fact that you may have as many as 8 notes per step,each with their own note length. You can then edit length of trig per note which is awesome ! The old style trig length p-locking still works for programmed in trigs, but live recorded trigs are edited using trig edit. As an added bonus you can set individual retrigs per note .
Personally I really like the trig edit on Tonverk, I find it even quicker than on the Digitone 2.

it sounds like what you are saying is that that they offer a parameter that on every other device works differently, but on Tonverk, it looks like it would behave this way, because the parameter is literally on the trig page, but that it isn’t actually available on the Tonverk for good reasons. That is fine but why is this parameter listed here? If I only have a single note on this trig. wouldn’t this still be valid a valid editing flow? if I had 10 notes on this trig, then. wouldn’t it still work for setting them all to the same length? If this parameter does nothing then why is it there?
Perhaps if the parameter has no effect on the event then it should indicate so on the UI. I feel the same about P-Lock with FX sends on sub-tracks. This intuitively works in the historical context of all Elektron boxes, however on Tonverk appears to be available to the user though it is not operating on a sub track but rather the entire instrument. It is misleading. I love that I can get to the global fx sends without switching to the instrument, but it leads me to the wrong expectation.
Congratulations, you’ve stumbled upon the most frustrating thing about Tonverk (imo)! Like you, I was also really confused when I locked lengths to the parameter shown on trig page and nothing happened. It’s rare to encounter something like this on an Elektron: if you can set a value and plock it, it will do just that. Nope, not here. It’s also extremely frustrating if you live record most of the time and want to then apply conditions or adjust velocity. You need to go to each individual note in step edit and change it. In effect, that means I just don’t bother and rather increase the pattern length.
There’s an imo obvious solution to this: they could leave the paradigm of step edit as is for those who are happy they can finally set micro timing, velocity, conditions etc. per note. For those simpletons who don’t bother (which I suspect should be most of us), the parameters on the trig page that can be locked should just apply to all notes of that step if you do plock it.
If true, this feels so incredibly broken. At the very least, these parameter names should grey out when trying to set them while holding a trig down. Or, if you try to do it, it could display a helpful tip “this is now edited in the …”
I‘m not 100% sure, but I think everything on the trig page you plock for a step that has multiple notes just doesn’t do anything. Meaning conditions, probability, velocity, retrig. More general, everything note related, so microtiming as well. And I think it behaves like this even if your track is set to mono and thus only contains one note max per step.
I agree that as long as the lock doesn’t do anything, it shouldn’t be available or there should be some kind of prompt. I‘d be sad if they removed it without adding the option to set these values the easy way though.
Well, perhaps the hierarchy is just too obscure at the moment. I’m hoping that they are reading this discussion and learning how to meet us users where we are. I very much hope they are working on a system that tries to make these workflows as self-consistent as possible.
It’s probably better to email them (feature-request@elektron.se) than hope they read this! Even the bug reports thread is not really reporting bugs, those are done better by using the support form
Something like this happened to me yesterday, on one of the recorded steps I would change the length and it wouldn’t reproduce such length when playing the note or the pattern. The trig was at the end of a page. Once I removed it and place it back It would work as expected.
I tried this and it worked as I expected with 1.3.2. I set notes on trigs 1, 6, 8, 9, and 12 and set them all by holding down trigger then entering note, then locking the length by holding trigger and setting it. It plays back exactly like one would want. I have notes that are 5 triggers long, 2 triggers long, 1 trig long, and 4 trigs long. This is with a multisample track FWIW.
One thing I’ve done is basically each time there’s a new FW update I start a fresh project and work from that so I haven’t noticed if there’s any weirdness like old projects retaining buggy behaviors after updates.
