Transferring software licenses to new PC

Hey all,
So I’ve recently built a new PC for production since the old one I had wasn’t built for heavy lifting and mastering audio.
My question is am I able to transfer all my plug-in and their licenses that are on my hard drive to the new PC? It seems sorta obvious that I could just hook up that hard drive to the new PC, but I figured not having done this before I should seek out someone with experience.
That being said they’re also on my system drive for the old PC. Should I delete the system files before plugging it into the new PC, or just move them to a different drive? I don’t think it would cause and issue with my boot order or my other files, but who knows? Maybe you!? Thanks for any advice!

Also before anyone asks my OS is Windows 10.

I think it depends on the plugin. Most of the time it shouldn‘t be a problem to just move them to the new harddisk. Maybe there will be a reinstallation necessary. Maybe you need to copy registry entries or other stuff which depends on the specific plugin and how it is programmed. Really not easy to give a general answer. If the plugins are not too old and the company from which you ordered them still exists you could contact them for license transfer to the new machine (for the case an installation on the new system is necessary but not possible).

The part with the boot order I didn‘t fully understand. Boot order is regulated by the BIOS which is on a much deeper level than the operating system. Plugging in an additional harddisk is not enough for the BIOS to boot from it, one has to first tell the BIOS to do so, which you wouldn‘t do. So there‘s no danger in that. Just make a backup from all the stuff if you‘re unsure. Then you‘re free to experiment and mess things up.

cheers

First things first: make an image of your disk prior to putting it into the new machine.
Shit can hit the fan when you mess up. You do not want that.
A reliable and free tool is veeam endpoint backup.

Thanks, you guys. And no worries. Ive already made a external back up for the drive prior to even posting this question. And yeah the registry part might have to come into play since a lot of them are Izotope or other Ilok plug-ins.
