Yes, I know it’s a dirty word. But I bet there’s a few secret trance fans on this board. Feel free to share your favourite tracks, production techniques etc.

gotta make a second account before I post here

A lot of stuff I liked as a kid is way too much for me know, but I still like that song (and the whole album I guess, haven‘t heard it in a while)

Ew.

Only trance tune I’ve ever liked is this:

Only because of the Edward Artemyev - “Theme from Siberiade” sample, which is an absolute masterpiece.

I’m not ashamed to admit I still love trance, yeah it can be over-earnest and formulaic, but the old stuff is ace.

The channel Trance Classics on YouTube is a gold mine, my favourite, I think, is either:

Or:

There are probably more “credible” tracks I could have chosen, but I love these a lot.

Trance classics is great. I’ve not listened to any new trance for probably 20 years, but that period from 98-2002 when I first found clubs is golden for me.

Massive fan of trance and have been for over 2 decades. Current state of the scene is sad (to me) though, so i’m trying to go my own way.

Dawless trance is … challenging… it’s hard to measure up to studio quality and in trance that’s what you’re competing with. So many things going at the same time as well, so it’s hard not to drown things out or have phasing issues etc… but it’s fun

Trance is too wide of a genre, my guess this thread is more of Eurotrance oriented? or is it unlimited to subgeneres?

Whatever floats your boat and what you consider trance.

I started with Trance at Gatecrasher in 2000 iirc. I moved on to Hard House after 12 months or so but songs such as Silence, Sandstorm and Bullet from a gun still give me the feels when I hear them again.

I’m a sucker for a SuperSaw and key changes.

Snap. Gatecrasher at the republic from 98 to about 2002. Also did summer soundsystem and one of the NEC events. Happy days.

Is there anything new-ish in the space that’s actually good? I see Nick Warren is still relatively active…

Not a dirty word at all!

I don’t see a way to go dawless with this style of music unless you’re using stems or other loops.

I don’t really listen to much trance these days, but I lived in Portugal during the 90s and early 00s and listened to a lot of Goa and Psy at parties in the forest – I think it’s great outdoors music and less for clubs. Boom Festival was also a big thing over there.

I think trance gets a bad rap because there’s a lot of shitty trance. I’m in the US and if anyone ever shows me some trance here I absolutely hate it, because it tends to be fluffy cheesy stuff that I would never be caught dead listening to. It’s of course very subjective, but it almost feels wrong to call everything “trance” because it can be so varied.

Some tracks that come to mind from that I used to be into:

It’s doable, but it takes a lot of effort and preparation. But yeah, loops greatly reduces the effort
