tr8s would be better for just drums, where as the pio would better to add more. i have a djs1000 and use it for layering loops while djing, and for bass lines in my production setup.
Both great for sure, the Toraiz though would be my choice as it has an excellent sampler and quite a few more features, whilst still being easy to use.
However the TR-8s probably is better just as a drum machine, but I don’t think you can go wrong with either.
If you’ve found an sp16 for cheap I’d go with that , it has a few features missing but has a nice assortment of fx , can be configured as midi / thru / sample as you like , can do slices / sample chains , has an arrangement mode and you should be able to get your money back if it’s v cheap.
The tr8s is a full on menu diving experience ignore the online nonsense. I bought and sold that unit in a heartbeat grab the pioneer shout out yet it’s crappy in some ways but you can access the crapness. If it was me e is just buy another digtakt.
Tr8s I had it for cheap off a guy in hacknie do not buy that machine it’s fun but it requires setup menu diving nonsense the toraz is what it is a sampler. If you can deal with touch screen get the mpc live but the pioneer is what it is just works
Blimey… I’m guessing you’ve not spent years programming 90’s ROMplers from their front panels then, or working on the S950 / S1000 samplers.
The TR-8S is fine - it’s not what I’d call menu-diving heavy at all. Sure, some of the more in-depth param editing is a bit data knob/LCD heavy, but it’s a more than fair trade off for what you get when you’re all set : simply the most capable, perfomance friendly drum machine experience, ever. This thing is just made to jam on. Set yourself a bunch of kits up & then just go for it. It’s a brilliant, brilliant drum machine. Sure there are compromises, but for the £££ - pure win.
