So I love this boutique for all the reasons everyone does, but I am struggling to come up with a routing solution for live performance given the limited analog outputs.
I note Cenk’s runs his tr-09 through a separate analog heat to gritty it up.
my hats feel very dry compared to the Rytm with its inbuilt reverb. I guess I wonder if this matters - some people like the dry sound. I just wish I had more flexibility with individual outs.
but running the stereo signal through any kind of reverb unit may muddy up the bass frequencies. currently I am running into the AR information it’s and into its compressor. I could run it through a separate mixer channel but then I don’t have a compressor for it.
I don’t really know what at I am asking here- except that I want to make the most of this unit to sound great and dynamic in live setting and I am not sure how others are using it in conjunction with other gear to balance it in the mix.
Kick separated. For side chaining monosynth. Both left and right via overbridge through the analog heat in plugin mode via ableton. Sounds delite to me. I love the 909. Although havent used the usb audio Yet. And if you want to hear together with dominion 1, check my soundcloud
Lets say you just keep the mix coming out of the tr09… lets say you just let it come out as a monosource… cause i think you can do panning if you have latest firmware. and have dual mono coming out… If you send that complete monomix to a reverb, you are correct you will have muddy lowend before you knows it… but… what if you get a highpass filter, and put that infront of your reverb…
tr09 -> seperate compressor -> mixer ^ send01 -> filter -> reverb -> mainout + mixertrack to mainout
you will have reverb, without lowend of the toms and kicks… tadaa…
^ the pan l&r thing is probably your best bet. But this is one of the reasons I’m surprised people buy the TR09 over the TR-8 if they’re going to use it live. It’s almost the same price but it’s way more limited (TR-8 has reverb, delay, multiple outs, inputs that you can put a sidechain effect on, 808/909/707/727/606 sounds, normal sized controls, etc). The TR09 is smaller and looks cooler though for sure.
A good reverb should allow you to dial back the low frequencies though, what are you using? Maybe you have a send on a mixer that you can eq and run a fully wet reverb on?
