I guess the FX are kind of compromise due to the processor (same for Artemis or S2400) but I agree.
It would have been so great though to have 2 or 3 stereo inserts wouldn’t it
As for the preset management i t should be possible to be on a certain machine (Wavefinder for example) and you push “FILE” and you can see all presets and instruments for that machine alone (and not all presets or instruments for ALL machines without even having prefixes or suffixes at least.
I agree with this. Has anyone ever tried out how the position encoder behaves when you have a perfectly sized sample (like when you record exactly 64 steps using that option in the sampler)? Will it jump in steps/bars?
I totally feel you. I bought the Tonverk mostly 'cos people telling it was a perfect Ambient box. And then all I got was an other sort of Digibox with some harsh FX, busses and polyphony.
But I never feel natural to go in the atmospheric/ambient/lush way.
It was all rings and bells around its autosample/multisample, but I rarelly used it that way.
In the end it goes in between a Digitone and a Digitakt without the flexibility and QoL of them.
Polyphony and busses? hummm right, I am still puzzled.
So either you have to put more time into it to learn how to use it for what you want to achieve, or it’s not for you and you can sell it and try something else.
If you wan’t stuff to sound less harsh you can always use one of the filters to round off the harshness.
check out substan … he does purely ambient stuff and I think you’ll get some inspiration
also is the harshness monitored headphone out or via some other gear? I’ve been improving my gain staging of late and it makes a huge difference as you could be internally clipping within the TV
I found you can make the phaser and flanger sound very interesting if you play around with them, they certainly are different from what you’d expect. The chorus isn’t great though.
They are very mellow but seem to have a lot of subtle but complex timbral shifts built into each table. So you can just do simple wavetable sweeps and get pretty nice evolving pads without much work
Tiny bit of modulated detune on osc 2, add a couple of fx and you’re in drifty ambient territory pretty easily
ah cool! you bought them! cool tip re osc 2 - I got the TV primarily for the wavefinder and anti-GAS for a groove synthesis third wave ha … but ive yet to deep dive to make pads which is my main use case - although wavefinder is killer at metallic guitar like distorted lead sounds
yes I treated myself, thanks for the nudge! Spent a few hours with the pack last night - seems like a good counterpart to a lot of the pluckier/noisier tables that came free with the TV OS upgrade.
ah sweet! yeah I got lucky with the google search - lush pad was an exact hit - the guy who makes the patches seems to be well regarded … testimonials include alot of professionals and I recognised some names! guess they all use serum haha
This is useful, thanks. But it’s only going to work if you have a sample whose different elements are exactly on the grid. I often record an instrument live, straight into the TV sampler. I might play a few chords on my Nord Electro 6D, with slightly different timing for each to get a jazz vibe, or I’ll record a simple bassline on my bass guitar that’s kind of in time, but not quite.
If I want to trigger a specific part of those longer audio files, I can’t use the method described here because the different phrases/parts of phrases aren’t precisly on the grid.
Every hardware sampler with a waveform display I’ve used has had zoom functionality, apart from Elektron Digi boxes (OT is the honourable exception). I mean, I was able to do that on my old Akai S5000 almost 30 years ago. It’s not exactly cutting-edge stuff.
I love Elektron gear and I love the simplicity and focus of the Elektron workflow. But the lack of zoom on a sample waveform display is a simplification too far, and especially so on a brand new flagship sampler.
