An additional transition pattern sending PC on a midi track.
Yes, that’s what I was thinking. It’s not ideal, and it kind of ruins the improvisational vibe. But it’ll do in a while. Thanks!
Im finally finishing my first TV track after having it nearly a month
I basically tied myself in knots by applying the same workflow I use on my DN2 to it i.e. using modwheel , breath for sound design / transitions , , but I also stupidly started using buses for core sound design
The result with the lack of kits and copy/paste on the macros (modwheel etc) as well as not being able to copy paste individual subtrack tracks between patterns created such a mental load when I needed to mix and match pattern and kit data as I developed my track , was very tiring.
So next track I am vowing to stick to sound design within the track parameters (no buses and macros) and only use buses for performances (like Oxenholme video last week)
anyone else struggling with tying themselves i mental knots with the TV? With its added complexity yet lack of kits and copy paste …the TV takes 4 min to save my project also which is really annoying
Ive been using elektron 8 years so im no newbie but the TV workflow with the missing features is forcing me to rethink alot of things
In my case, I only have a few individual patterns.
Tracks organized like this:
Track 1 Kick Drum
Track 2 Sub-track with the rest of the drums
Track 3 Bass
Track 4 Chord Pads
Track 5 More rhythmic chords (almost a skank style in dub reggae)
Track 6 Arpeggiator 1
Track 7 Arpeggiator 2
Track 8 Some presets for playing live.
Bus 1 Drum compressor and ambience for the drums if they need more cohesion
Bus 2 Bass with sidechain
Bus 3 Ambience and extra filters for chords
Bus 4 Ambience and extra filters for arpeggios.
Send FX are my performance part.
I put static reverb or delay on the buses and track FXs.
The delay (x2) and reverb sends handle the chaos, changing the tempo, increasing feedback, lengthening reverb tails, etc.
This gives me a balance between the effects in the song’s mix and what I want to destroy live. And it feels more organic to use the send effects for this with an external controller, instead of constantly switching track routing to one bus or another, which would require two hands. I can always map the track or bus effect parameters for more control. But I haven’t done that yet.
About sounds, loading times, etc., I try to avoid large files. I mainly use single-cycle waveforms, wavefinder, or grainer for melodic sounds. If I use a multi-sample it will be for sounds that I can’t recreate with the previous machines: acoustic instruments, electric guitars, etc. With this setup, I’m currently achieving save times of around 10 seconds and load times of 10-15 seconds. I’ve also minimized the number of folders and subfolders as much as possible to avoid excessive loading times when turning on the machine.
hey that is really cool to understand how you do your setup! Do you follow the Ezbot method to sidechain your Tk1 kick to your bass by putting an inset compressor or something? How do you sidechain your bass ? Would love to know
Save times are so fast! Do you really think its the one multi sample bass track that is creating this?
Hi! For the bass sidechain, I use a subgroup. I place a compressor on bus 2. I route the bass to bus 2 and select the kick drum (Track 1) as the source for the sidechain in the compressor.
The music styles I make are usually slow (Triphop, downtempo, dub), and I use the sidechain without any aesthetic purpose, just to control the low frequencies. Then I can duck any track if I want using the LFOs in the track parameters. I keep this separate from the buses.
Ultimately, what I try to do is follow a more or less fixed scheme, where certain variables (track and bus effects) can change, but the structure always remains the same.
This also helps me maintain a more robust MIDI mapping without having to use more than one page in Launchcontrol.
I hope this helps. I’m not very good at explaining in English and I often have to use a translator, haha.
About loading times, if you only have one multi-sample, it seems strange to me. Also, check the subtracks. If you’re using long tracks in subtracks for the alternative slice mode, and you load the same long track into all 8 subtracks, it counts as 8 long samples. Could it be the sound card? A 128GB Sandisk Extreme Pro works fine for me. I wouldn’t know what else to tell you. Check the files loaded in the project and see how much RAM is being used.
Very nice, nothing else to say
Headless Horseman is just out of this world, jeeeeeez.
hey I checked and my RAM usage is like 20% only … ive not loaded any of my own samples and have my saved projects just as is when you save within the TV menu
About 800 MB, it’s strange that it takes so long to save. I’m checking my Tonverk. The largest project is 503 MB, but it loads and saves instantly.
And I just tried a new project. With one multisample per track, 1253 MB. It continues to load and save quite quickly. Around 5 seconds to save. About 15 seconds to load the project and all the samples. This was with two 256-step patterns.
Any tips for a sort of Punch in FX?
You can use that trick of trigs with 0% probability that have your preferred effects, then previewing them, with a reset trig that reverts to normal. @Oxenholme and a few others have made videos about it. It’s similar in principle to what you can do on the Syntakt with the FX block.
Hey is the reset trig p locked to default values ? Not sure I understand
Yes, exactly. I recommend watching one of the videos that will make the idea clearer.
Video + extra details here :
hey, look at headless horseman video just above , he.s doing a lot of punch in with the buses routing in live and instant pattern jumping to make fill ins and various cuts
Hi guys, had my box for a while but not had got time for music until nowadays
Torn on Tonverk as i cant sync it with my other studio gear. What would you recommend or is the verdict to use it standalone? Currently put it up for sale as im really torn not being able to use it same as hardware deveices. ![]()
I use mine standalone. Tiz my favourite standalone unit ever. Just has pretty much everything I need n sounds really good.
I’ve hooked it up to my S4 (s4 doin some ambient resampling and that so sync wasn’t an issue) but tbh I prefer using the verk solo atm.
Cheers Pidgeo
i get you and now thinking I might just focus on getting my sound into it from all other devices but just not play along them… any success though in sync with other gear? i feel like messing around with adjusting delay isnt getting me in the right cretive mood in the first place. then im not sure if tempo will drift etc etc…
I haven’t tried syncing much. did hook my analog four to it briefly. sync seemed a bit sloppy with percussion and that. didn’t test it much tho.
to be honest tho, I prefer using all my gear standalone. multiple units melts my brain. and I hate cables ![]()
