Tonverk: User Thread

I got also sometimes missing sounds (grainer and wavefinder), have to turn off and on again.
And yes, what is currently holding the TV back and not being as snappy as the digis are for example:
-waiting pop ups
-not noticing/seeing in a glimpse on which page iam (combined with popups)

and maybe seeing more clearly a difference in trks, busses, send, master would be nice. The led colours are a step in the right direction but could be with more contrast.
maybe i have to use tapemarkers for that.

This is probably my biggest annoyance. I’ll think I’m editing on the first page of four, only to get a surprise when I collapse the track down to a bar.

Easy enough fix, but something that doesn’t happen on the older machines.

The behringer syncussion arrived today and it was a breeze to set up. (multi)sampling works like a charm.

Also live the sound of the behringer. Which I was expecting, as I love (vapor)dub.

can anyone explain how to route audio over USB from Digtone2 to Tonverk?

i get audio via the TRS jacks inputs A/B but nothing over USB , i dont see any option for volume in the mix for USB. From what I gather the IN A / IN B in the mix controls both USB / TRS together. But I am not getting any audio from USB, only TRS.

USB Audio In is set to “pattern” on TV, not really sure what this means. USB out is set to “main” on digitoneii.

edit-- i think i need a usb audio ‘host’ as tonverk/dn2 cannot communicate without one?

I think I‘ll put my DN E25 trig 9-16 keys there so I have a clearer distinction. Don‘t know what it will look like when it’s darker, but I also am searching for a bit too long where the busses start.

It’s by far not as annoying as all of the waiting. Is there a chance the TV will become a lot quicker over time with updates or is this something we just have to accept about it? Because as great as the device is, this is killing my drive a bit, especially if I only have like 15 minutes to spend and feel like 5 of them are spent waiting.

Unpopular opinion : the filterbank effect sounds too damn lame

I’m used to filterbanks sounding pretty insane while the Tonverk filterbank algo cannot inspire me in any way. Even worse, I hardly notice the filterbank do anything apart from some low impact filtering.

Agreed. I’ve tried it once, and barely detected any change. I even put a frequency band under modulation just to see what that would sound like… undetectable (and yes, I was modulating a frequency that was represented in the sample).

I didn’t spend a lot of time on it, and the FX was kind of an afterthought just to play around. I chalked it up to the sound in question, and/or the complexity of the mix, but it didn’t impress.

It’s more of a utility effect than anything I’d expect wow factor from, however.

exactly this… such a shame for potentially such a great sound design tool a filterbank can be. This for me also goes for the phaser effect. Both are not nearly what they could be.

I have to agree. The phaser sounds nothing like a Mutron Bi-phase or EH Small Stone.

With the new investor and all I hope they will open the platform of machines and effects to the public, a marketplace or whatever but allow creative new algos onto the platform. I’ll be buying.

Agree. I genuinely wonder how it made it off the workbench with this performance.

Hmm… interesting wish.

I’m neutral on all of that, and not sure how much I wish to invite microtransactions into Elektron’s sphere, but clearly they are in need of a revenue increase, so perhaps.

I haven’t explored the phaser much, beyond poking it for a second to see the parameter range. It was fine for my needs, but I wonder if multiple in series might help?

This isn’t the feature request forum, but my dream is for bus tracks to allow routing into adjacent bus tracks (I’d even be ok for them to make it limited, like explicitly left to right, perhaps akin to how neighbor tracks operate in the A4 / OT).

I’ve wanted this since day one. Progressive bussing would be really great, though prob a latency disaster.

re: the frequent “wait” popups, I hope they can sort them out a bit. when doing a quick save, which I do often, you have to wait for it to finish saving before you can copy/paste stuff. I love the Verk, but that is one thing I hope they can improve.

Do you have any other Elektron devices? It’s clear as day that the tonverk is more fiddly to name things if you’re coming from even the machinedrum. Swapping between devices it’s very clear

I think so unfortunately.
I originally also hoped for direct usb connection with usb things like, Elektron gear ? Apparently no.
Audio cables do the job…

I had all of them except MnM and Sidstation. What about you ? :content:
I still have Digitone 2 and Octatrack MKII.

AFAIK no character insert for Octatrack since 2010. I don’t remember Analogs or Models way exactly, probably similar to Digis.

Anyway, I think what users had before isn’t the point, but the most logical way is; especially if you need to name / rename things oftenly.

Digi way to insert a character:
Func + Yes to insert space + back arrow + Func + character select with arrows / release

Tonverk way
Func + character select with arrows + Yes.

What is Elektronauts preference?

Tonverk’s way seems more logical to me.

Playing around this morning with using TV as an effects unit for DN2. Its super cool, this is really what i feel DN2 lacks is some effects. Its also pretty interesting how if turn the same DN2 patch into a multi sample you can get different types of sounds out of it compared to the “live” version. I guess because the sample version is “frozen”

I turned a really fat swamer bass line into a pretty sinsister drone. Also using Rum. Reverb for the first time and damn that adds some super nice tones

I have found that the only way to get the true juice from the live synth is to just record a loop, but multisampling the patch gives something different and also useful. In the case of fairly percussive or short sounds like bells the multisample ends up usually being quite close though.
