I personally wouldn’t pin all my hopes on the ‘Monday’ firmware paving the way to a live performance solution that you could swap out the Macbook for, not just yet … it’s unusual to get firmware releases so soon after launch, but the need to address some issues is clear … my reading of this is that the most critical (and most solvable) will be tackled in a quick turnaround, sorta consolidating the launch firmware, but knowing a bit of Elektron’s track record here, this will not be a release that includes any headline changes or makes fundamental engine tweaks for fear of making anything else compromised … those types changes are normally checked out for longer before being released although this new development platform they’re using mitigates for some of this required time … i think there was talk of a release in October which will possibly have some fixes people were hoping for from Monday if they couldn’t be completed by then
I hope i’m not speaking out of turn, but i’ve looked at the latency for audio and midi throughput for the next release and it’s in line with the launch firmware numbers already discussed by users at circa 20ms … this is something you can test now for ‘feel’ with the current firmware, if you are triggering snappy sounds fast it won’t be ideal, i think the general threshold for feel disruption is for latency above 10ms … obviously for slower evolving sounds this is irrelevant, so how it would impact you would depend upon the type of sounds being triggered this way
many people do use Elektron devices without leaning on the sequencer, i think this is a better candidate device for that in theory, i think the obvious niggles will be dealt with soon … so it should be realistic to reliably capture multisample instruments sometime soon, i’m unsure (as in i have no idea) if there’s any expectation that the general latency will be worked on for any subsequent october firmware
If i were you i’d find a representative ‘test’ sound from the factory content (as it will be reliably captured) and see if the latency as is is workable, presumably this can be improved, people on here familiar with the new platform the Tonverk uses seem to suggest it has the horsepower … if you need more than a faith it will come good as a viable laptop replacement in the near term reach out to Elektron and see if they can assure you
