We currently have no confirmed list of issues from Elektron, nor any estimated fix dates. I will monitor their updates on Monday and throughout the first weeks of October to better understand their progress and establish realistic expectations for resolution timelines.
I would disagree. The DN keys added a lot of extra and macro encoders and aftertouch, they even made a whole bunch of new presets for it.
The Analog Keys has different circuits in part,
added CV lanes and the LEDs above the keys are really great for sequencing. I think it was even more, and layout completely new designed.
I like the monomachine keys version design-wise a lot (missed it, though). And fot the same reasons I really like the DN keys. ![]()
seems to be my iphone se. i tried with other devices and there was no problem.
I bought Tonverk hoping to use it as a live instrument, taking stems from studio recordings and creating multi sample instruments played by hand by a midi keyboard. Essentially replacing a laptop that was doing the work before. I’m not as interested in using the sequencer, etc. For context, when playing live with Tortoise, we use Reason on a macbook as a live instrument, samples and synths, and use none of the sequencing, everything is played live with midi keyboards. Hoping I made a good decision! With the current sample trigger lag when multisampling, it’s unsuable for what my intended use. Really hoping this is addressed with the new update on Monday! Does anyone else envision using Tonverk as a polyphonic, multisample, played live by hand on a midi keyboard instrument? Or am I Tonverking up/down the wrong stream? Thanks!
I love my Tonverk and believe it’s a great little box. For your specific use case though, there’s probably a better option for cheaper - like an MPC One+ or Maschine+
OT - I’m a big Tortoise fan for the past 25 years or so.
Thanks, to be clear, I’ve already got the Tonverk. I’m an elektron box user already, have had Digitakt and Digitone for years. I’m just interested if other folks are thinking of using it as a polyphonic sampler, played live, performance instrument, without much fuss about sequencing?
Cheers, thanks for listening!
Does the tv have exact same chord mode and arp as digitone?
According to my research not.
Chord Mode and Arpeggiator: Elektron’s Tonverk and Digitone II have similar chord modes (scale-based, one-finger chords, custom chord memory, P-locks) and arpeggiators (up/down/random modes, customizable speed/range, P-locks). However, Digitone II’s chord mode and arp are more synth-focused with deeper note editing and modulation (e.g., velocity, microtiming, aftertouch), while Tonverk’s are sequencer-centric, supporting all 16 tracks (audio/MIDI) for broader routing flexibility.
Euclidean Sequencer: Tonverk does not have an Euclidean sequencer. Digitone II includes this feature, allowing mathematically derived rhythms with customizable steps, hits, and offsets across all tracks, enhancing generative sequencing.
IIRC they said the two were related… If so, they might be able to tackle both issues at the same time
Agree. This one caught me off guard. The lack of trigless trigs frustrates me. I’m mostly happy with my Tonverk, but this is one of three workflow issues I have with it (so far) that stops me from working the way I’m used to on my other Elektrons.
The other two are the lack of a parts/kits concept and the cutting off samples when switching patterns thing. Both way more serious issues than the «missing» trigless trigs, but I knew about those two when I bought it.
I’m not sure tha samples cut off when properly configured though? I mean, if both patterns have the same samples assigned
hang on, what?! ![]()
They still gets cut off. Unless I’m missing something obvious, that is…
To test I loaded a long preset that plays longer than 16 steps to a track on a 16 step pattern and copied the whole pattern. Then played both as a chain.
IIRC someone other than you had this issue, turned out he forgot to check his envelope etc settings and there was something misconfigured somewhere. Once he sussed it out, the samples did play across pattn changes
I personally wouldn’t pin all my hopes on the ‘Monday’ firmware paving the way to a live performance solution that you could swap out the Macbook for, not just yet … it’s unusual to get firmware releases so soon after launch, but the need to address some issues is clear … my reading of this is that the most critical (and most solvable) will be tackled in a quick turnaround, sorta consolidating the launch firmware, but knowing a bit of Elektron’s track record here, this will not be a release that includes any headline changes or makes fundamental engine tweaks for fear of making anything else compromised … those types changes are normally checked out for longer before being released although this new development platform they’re using mitigates for some of this required time … i think there was talk of a release in October which will possibly have some fixes people were hoping for from Monday if they couldn’t be completed by then
I hope i’m not speaking out of turn, but i’ve looked at the latency for audio and midi throughput for the next release and it’s in line with the launch firmware numbers already discussed by users at circa 20ms … this is something you can test now for ‘feel’ with the current firmware, if you are triggering snappy sounds fast it won’t be ideal, i think the general threshold for feel disruption is for latency above 10ms … obviously for slower evolving sounds this is irrelevant, so how it would impact you would depend upon the type of sounds being triggered this way
many people do use Elektron devices without leaning on the sequencer, i think this is a better candidate device for that in theory, i think the obvious niggles will be dealt with soon … so it should be realistic to reliably capture multisample instruments sometime soon, i’m unsure (as in i have no idea) if there’s any expectation that the general latency will be worked on for any subsequent october firmware
If i were you i’d find a representative ‘test’ sound from the factory content (as it will be reliably captured) and see if the latency as is is workable, presumably this can be improved, people on here familiar with the new platform the Tonverk uses seem to suggest it has the horsepower … if you need more than a faith it will come good as a viable laptop replacement in the near term reach out to Elektron and see if they can assure you
no, thanks for creating ! … it has to be said
Looking forward to your early Barbican show in November.
Quick Question. As you can only use 2 effects per subtrack group. Is it possible to route everyone of the 8 subtracks to different busses and send tracks?
Ahh! You’re right. What happened in my test is that even though the trig length was long on pattern 1, it was short on pattern 2. So when pattern 2 started, the trig stops and the release part of the amp envelope muted the sound. Phew! And thank you.
