Tonverk: technical Q&A

Quite honestly I had not even considered that overbridge itself could just record the track stems outside of a DAW but if you can do this with multiple OB devices at once I think I need to try that since I have no specific desire to send my DN2 and Syntakt audio through the decent-but-unimpressive converters on my L6max beyond the convenience of doing so. How is the playback and editing when you do it this way?

I’m much more inclined to want TV to get overbridge now that I know that, TBH. It also seems like the right place to put something like a round-robin kit builder for subtracks using samples that are already on the device and multisample editor/loop point detector, so now I’m hoping they’re working on that. As much fun as surprise FW feature drops are I’d rather know ahead of time if a company cares about and is working on a feature so I don’t spend too much time or money on some other approach. 1010 just did that by finally adding a feature I’d requested for bento since it released a month after I sold it despite telling me directly they had no concrete plan to add it.

Unfortunately, you can only multitrack record one OB device at a time. Also, there is no real playback, or editing from inside Overbridge. Files are just saved into a folder on your hard drive.

I have often thought about how amazing it would be if Overbridge could host multiple devices though.

bummer. it’s still possible from the DAW with OB, but the added overhead of setting all that up annoys me.

Yeah, I always get bogged down with annoying setup when trying to use OB in a DAW, and always end up just getting stems out of the standalone app.

Is this “extended” zero ATK normal under [Filter] settings?

Not sure if I’ve seen that before! Does it sound as you’d expect? (Did you unlock some sort of filter envelope delay?)

Or is it just a UI bug

It’s called “envelope delay” and can be found in the manual. The digis have it too. Unfortunately, this parameter is available on the filter only but not on the amp envelope.

Just being curious: What would be the use case for an AMP envelope delay? What would be achieved with this that would differ from the same effect coming from the timing of your playing or sequencing?

sound design in combination with track layering. e.g. build this super uber dope snare from 5 different snares and claps etc… you get the point.

I think this is a stupid question, but does TV send out midi from the Multi or Single tracks?

I’ve written a track on TV and am trying to record the midi into my DAW, to that I can then play TV from my DAW, but I’m not receiving any midi. I’m presuming I’d only receive midi from a midi track? (even over USB?)

Nope. I’ve just discovered the same thing yesterday. Only the midi machines will send midi note out from the sequencer. But playing notes using the Tonverk keyboard will send them out.

It’s a bit inconsistent and not practical as a behavior if you want to use the sequencer to layer sound with other instruments or record sequences in a DAW. I don’t know how it is on the digi machines, but it’s a bit of a downgrade coming from the AR/A4.

Thanks for confirming. I can see why it does that, but it’s a shame there isn’t a menu option to enable midi out from other tracks for (as you say) layering and just to record out for further editing/manipulation.

i was playing with the supertrack PROB on a subtrack , then i adjusted the SUB2 prob knob and then tried to play again with the Supertrack Prob knob but now the SUBtrack 2 prob value is “decoupled” from the one on the supertrack . tried save and reboot but Sub2 won’t respond to supertrack prob value now. any ideo to go back ?

I’m not really sure I understand your issue, but to me this sounds like expected behavior.

I’ve noticed this issue:

  • On Subtrack, I have a trig placed on step 9.
  • On Supertrack, I have a p-lock placed on step 9, which increases the send amount to Send FX 3 for every second time around the loop (Probability set to 2/2)
  • I expected the trigs on Supertracks to not have any effect on the triggers for Subtracks, but this setup effects the trigger probability for the Subtrack sound, not just the Send value

Lol, now that I am writing this out, I think my issue will probably be resolved by placing a trigless-trig on my Supertrack…

Or maybe the new update made Supertrack trigs behave more like how I initially expected? Sorry if this comes across as a brain dump…

No worry, actually i feel a bit like this : are actually the subtracks the most complicated part of the tonverk to understand and grasp or are actually the subtracks the most bugged out part of the tonverk. anyway gonna read the manual again for the 3rd time :joy:

I noticed the same thing but I hope you’re right that a trigless trig will allow the subtrack trigs to trigger. Still a somewhat odd behaviour I would say.

Yeah, I feel like the interaction between the two layers of p-locks is still pretty buggy, or I am totally misunderstanding how they’re supposed to work.

I definitely still notice bugginess around the state of a trig after a p-lock has been removed from the Supertrack. For example, once I remove a p-lock, I still have to manually remove the previously p-locked values from the step where the p-lock used to exist.

Same experience. I pretty much gave up on subtracks for the time being if i plan on doing any p-locking.

They appear to have fixed this in FW 1.2.1!

Hi all,

Is there some handy way to trade patterns (sounds & seqs) between projects?
