Tonverk speculations

Coming on here with logical, reasonable thoughts…

Ridiculous.

One thing i wonder though is why does Elektron stuff keep getting leaked?

You don´t see other companies getting leaks to this degree.

Could it be a part of the marketing? i have not really thought that it was, but when you see it happening time and time again… it makes you wonder

I second that. In the video game world (where I work), trademarks on long gone projects are routinely extended because they are part of bigger portfolios which can then be sold.

yes 100%

this happens in markets of products which are very competitive
you could ask why a company makes so many leaks - yes marketing strategy like you thought, draw attentions to company plans, create humming around new product plans and also discourage customers to buy competitive products which offers different or better features than your current product line.

There will be no Tonverk because they will change the name to ToneTwerk or PlotTwist.

The upside is that there is no loss of sales to the people who say, “I’m not going to buy anything while I’m waiting for Tonverk”.

Also consider, there may indeed be a Tonverk development, but Elektron have told ezbot (just like they hinted to us) that it is a dead concept.

So let me get this straight.

Elektron intentionally leaked Tonverk, but then intentionally pretended it doesn’t exist so that sales of their existing gear aren’t damaged by the leak they definitely did on purpose, but then didn’t release the Tonverk they definitely leaked on purpose for more than six months, rendering the original (completely on purpose) leak completely pointless. I don’t know much about marketing, but I don’t think that’s the sort of strategy anyone with a brain might want to follow.

None of this nonsense has anything to do with Elektron.

The wait won’t be long.

What leaks are you talking about specifically? It’s just two per my understanding.

Digitakt II was leaked ahead of reveal because the old Elektron website had an exposed dev webstore. I know the person who did it, and they are absolutely not on the Elektron payroll.

Tonverk was leaked by someone who found a listing on Xianyu for it (and I have the original source). The screenshots and nature of it rather point to components stolen from an assembly line.

It feels conspiratorial to go down this road. Based off the reaction I wouldn’t say Digitakt II or Tonverk leaks were part of some viral marketing campaign. There is a lot of potential harm to IP that people don’t take into consideration. A company should be able to release information when they are ready to do so - not scramble marketing teams to make videos and a press kit, or crunch developers to a new finish line.

Like @bibenu says it is also harmful to existing sales if customers take a stance of holding off because something else is potentially coming.

The last 3 mpc products leaked in the weeks/months prior to launch

Digitakt 2
Tonverk
Digitone Keys
Model:cycles
Octatrack MK2
Syntakt

These were all leaked one way or another.

I don’t think any of those were really leaks, like “here’s a prototype device, months or even years before it’s ready”.

They were mostly soft leaks and just some info getting out few weeks before hitting retail

In years to come psychologists will look for a definitive definition of “over thinking” and have an archive of this thread for students to study

With the exception of Tonverk, I guess you are referring to third party stores releasing info before official release. Those are leaks but not in the same category IMO. You are talking about days or weeks before official launch, for a product already finalized. The French store that “leaked” Digitakt II (far later after it was leaked by the party I mentioned) was also given the lowest priority in DTII stock per my understanding. I would imagine there are other legal repercussions or liabilities as well to such a store. Wouldn’t seem like they are “in on it”.

As far as Synth Anatomy goes, I just see regurgitation of something that was already shared elsewhere earlier.

That’s the same argument in different clothes. Consider:

  • I’m thinking about buying an A4
  • I see a Tonverk leak looks like an A4 and so hold off.
  • Elektron says “Tonverk is never happening!” (important to note they did not and have not said this! But let’s say they do)
  • I think “Great!” and buy that A4
  • Elektron releases the Tonverk and I hate them.

Versus:

  • I’m thinking about buying an A4
  • I see Tonverk. So I wait.
  • And wait.
  • And wait.
  • And say “skrew it” and buy they A4.
  • I love the A4 and hate the Synth Anatomy story for making me wait so long.

Elektron has my A4 money either way. But one way they also have my hatred. It just doesn’t make business sense for them.

And, I mean, y’all are free to argue “but Elektron are evil masterminds cackling to themselves and trying to inception us into giving them money” or something. But given that evil cackling masterminds don’t exist, that’ll bring down the accuracy of your speculation over the long run.

Seems to me highly unlikely that elektron would tell such fibs (‘never happening’) within a short time-span of a launch.

See to me highly likely that elektron might make such a statement if

  • there was some uncertainty about the launch ever happening, or
  • there was still a long way to launch date and they didn’t want to hurt sales of competing products.

Anyway … I’m now guilty of ‘overthinking’ (thank you @JoyrexJ9 ) so I will bow out. The speculation was fun.

Or you buy a readily available mint condition used A4 for $700 off of retail and put that savings towards the Tonverk fund.
