have a pair I love. Anyone know if 2 pairs can use the same transmitter at once?
did you ever find out if two pairs can use one transmitter?
Also does anyone know who the TMA-2’s strongest competition is, I would think if the tech is viable that they would have some competition now?
No, I wasn’t able to get it to work. I can get them to pair with the same macbook on bluetooth somewhat reliably (takes several rounds of re-pairing usually), but not with the transmitter (which is otherwise solid).
have you looked into anything else that is comparable?
I couldn’t find any competition when I looked 6 months ago. Surprising really.
yeah it is, they are probably waiting for me to buy these so that they can come out with something way better 5 min later
Not really - you can either go with official Bluetooth, and play nicely with existing infrastructure, or try to cram your cool algorithm into the increasingly crowded 2.4GHz ISM space, as I suggested upthread.
Lower latency than Apple/Sony/Bose/Whatever offer in their best products almost certainly means that interference rejection is being traded off for lower latency. Which means that these headphones are unlikely to be useful in an office situation, on public transit, or in high density residential towers.
we’re talking about the low latency for music production use, not for regular blue tooth use, do you know of anything comparable?
Not sure I need the low latency then though?
They also work as standard Bluetooth headphones, and work well with no drop outs etc.
Depends on what you are doing. If you are doing audio production work in an office, then you might care about the latency. But the point I should have made more explicit is that the market for the TMA-2 is probably tiny, which is why Sony/Bose/Apple aren’t even trying to compete in this space.
Thats a good point. Though the thought of me on the train with my prophet 5 on my lap trying to get a good recording, with low latency, made me chuckle
I have a pair of wireless TMA-2’s and I used them on a dj gig some time ago where I played a 5 hour vinyl set. The dj-booth was quite cramped as is often the case.
In the past I would place my records on the floor behind me as I like to browse while listening to my headphones for the right cue position but now I could simply put my cases on a table right next to the dj booth and go through my records standing up.
Latency was unnoticeable so cueing and beatmatching was same as with any other wired headphones.
It was liberating and fun to be able to wander around and not be tied down to the mixer or have a dangling cable in the way.
The only issue I have is that you really need to find the sweet spot to have enough loudness (especially in a noisy club environment) and not distort the song. There isn’t that much headroom. So for studio use they are fine but for dj’ing they need some tweaking.
I’m dreaming of riding in the Shinkansen Green Car with my Lyra on the tray as I eat a bento lunch and sip sake while scenery flies by at 200mph.
Edit: I may have to settle for Syntrx on Amtrak at something like 50mph in a Room or Roomette, but those things are $$$$$.
I think the only real alternative is an in-ear system, I tried some cheaper ones (LD Systems) and was not happy. You probably have to go for Shure or Sennheiser and pay some good money. I am really happy with the TMA2’s though I still have to get used to over ear headphones. But they do sound really good. (I am no HIFI person)
The Headroom depends on the Headphone Out itself. on The OT MK" I can crank mine up into ear blasting territory but with the DT ist half out the volume pot and even if its not loud it distorts. I think its an impedance issue
It is surprising but these are not great sounding headphones
with in ear systems you have to spend more than 1k to get some good results but its bulky too and not as comfortable to use as the AIAIAI
it’s about having wireless headphones I can track a guitar or synth in with tolerable latency. They’re not audio file headphones, they’re not headphones for mastering. If you’re expecting that, AND low latency wireless, then you’re just being naive.
The AIAIAIs are more than enough for critical listening. I have so ultra precise Mixing Headphones and get better results with the AIAIAI ( leather pads over ear and S05mk2 drivers) ! Maybe because they are honest but not too honest to get stuck on details you won’t even hear in the mix ( I make techno )
