Tips and Tricks for ambient/pads on OT?

Hi,

once someone here stated that the OT is great for Pads and Ambient Soundscapes to.
I think it would be nice if everyone could share his or her experience with creating such things - a collection of small how-to’s so to say.

Ive been messing around with Dark Reverb and LFO’s on Sample Start, Release, Filter Cutoff, Reverb Dry/Wet and Tail and got some decent sounds out, though I feel like theres much more to explore.

So please feel free to share any technique you came across!

Cheers, Herr Rausch

Make a evolving patch in the DAW - make it 64 BARS long.
Slice it with sample grid. Lock slices to scene.
X fade scene  with other complimentary pad sound you did in your DAW, which is then providing additional “driplets” to the oozing pad.

Other thing what i can think of , is using a slow phaser on any material, the depth is controlled with LFO 1, and speed with LFO 2. For example. Probably combined with distortion blended in synchronized to LFO 1 or 2.
(Probably better with asynchronous timing, so when the distortion is maximized, the phaser is minimal, and vice versa.)

to get interesting evolving/generative stuff going i recently experimented with different track lengths and very slow tempos like 45bpm and placing only around 3 triggers per track with infinite master length. it gives you seemingly random variations and evolving textures together with the things you mentioned.

of course drowning everything in reverb is an option as well, but i find that approach rather boring. also reverb tails are always cut off on parts changes.

generally i find it hard to get any kind of pad out of the OT due to the step sequencing approach and the generally very choppy nature of the OT. but you can definitely trick the OT into doing ambient pads as well and it can do an outstanding job on that kind of stuff.

In my opinion one of the best tutorial to get startet.

This is awesome. The result of these techniques is not as choppy as my past attempts to make drones on the OT.
Sweet find! :+1:

good fx combo using two tracks, one neighbour in series = chorus > spring reverb > spatializer > dark reverb
