Tinnitus treatment with Taurin

I have read that Taurine improved the life expectancy of rats by around 12% - so i digged a bit deeper on Taurine, and found it could also improve tinnitus. (Which I suffer since years.)
I have taken it now for several days, in various quantities to try out if i can take it without any digestive problems.

My feeling is already the tinnitus got a little bit lower in volume, and there are certain times a day, i cant hear it that obviously any longer. It might be also a bit of placebo effect - i cant say this currently, as its not completly stopped - but i feel a improvment, after maybe 5 days taking it.

Here they did a rat experiment, confirming that they percieved also an improvement on rats when they had tinnitus induced due to high sound amplitudes.

I didnt have this on the radar, but i knew it was also x dependent on the amount of stress i expierience. If you try this out - can you report back in this thread if it has helped you?

I posted this before in a different topic, but i think it deserves its own thread.

They have shown results with rats after some weeks with rats, our metabolism is for sure a bit slower, maybe it takes several month till there is a result with humans.

Looking for excuses to drink Red Bull?

Some people say vitamin B12 helps. Eg Prince used to allegedly inject it before gigs to combat tinnitus,

No, caffeine is related to stress inducing behaviour, i am talking here about the amino acid supplement, certain companys add to their product to combat /mask their product. They tested the rats only with audio and pure taurin.

I use b12 since some month, but on low dosage, as i am on vegitarian diet.

I do Omega 3 capsules from algae aswell, when i take b12, i knew that it takes some combination, also magnesium needs kalium to support it. I am well into the supplement stuff, but there is always something new to learn. I found a guy who runs a channel, who says iron supplement is actually bad because it accumulates over the years, and says it can be improved with blood letting. ( So giving some blood now and then is actually beneficial to your health.)

We have to be considerate with these supplements, too much can be a problem - to little and it might not have the intended effect.

But lets focus here in this thread on Taurine and Tinnitus - there are enough online information about other supplements. The tipp with B12 is for sure okay, wasnt aware that Prince did injections for that - but i dont know Elvis was killed by his doctor some people say.

Just for the sake of it - i googled it, and pub.med didnt have any beneficial reports for singing actors reportet.

Nevertheless the rat experiment is confirmed by pub.med. I am for sure no doctor, so make up your own mind, and inform yourself.

Not sure about any supplements. I’ve been starting to work out neck, shoulders, chest and feel like that helps somewhat.

Meditation works great as well,
I feel like I learn to tune it out very well.

For temporary relief, this works absolute wonders

Ignoring tinnitus works pretty well, though it won’t disappear. It positively correlates with stress, so if you’re stressed, it will ring louder and vice versa. Needless to say that the more you focus on it, the more it remains present. I heard that a calibrated hearing device can help but the problem is once you take it off, you can hear it very well again. As for substances, if there was any working solution, it would be already out there as a money-making treatment.

Well - i searched for a while, before i stumbled about Taurine - essentially it is cheap - so maybe thats also a reason its not talked about. Not sure if it will work - but i will try it out - so to speak i am your human rat in this regard. If it works i report back, i will give it some month though - i dont expect it to work after a few weeks taking it, maybe it will take some month - i dont know.

You could even try acupuncture, done by a qualified professional of course. In the worst case, it will calm you down, which reduces your perception of tinnitus. It is not the cheapest option and it is also not known to be a miracle solution either.

I’m at work so didn’t press the link, But how did they know the rats had tinnitus?, I’m intrigued.

They did expose them to high sound pressure over longer periods, must be a cruel experiment , that they did to these poor mices, and then they tested them wether they reacted to audio signals or not.

So far i can report my tinnitus has improved in that sense , it has gotten lower in volume - i still take about 1,5 - 2 gramm each day.

What strength taurine are you using?

I use a vegetarian supplement, its according to the packager 500 mg per capsule, but i take like 2 in the morning, and 2 for lunch - its better not to take it in the evening - it delivers a energy boost.

I have chronic tinnitus for many years. In fact, I’m listening to it right now! Fortunately, I’ve learned to ignore it, and don’t notice it at all most of the time. I notice it when I’m laying here in bed after I wake up, and check the Elektronauts forum for updates regarding the Digi-Drama.

Caffeine is said to make tinnitus worse; and this matches my experience somewhat. Taurine is often used similarly to caffeine, to perk you up, so I’m mildly surprised to read it might improve tinnitus. Hope it works for you.
