Time-Stretching techniques?

I feel like maybe I’m missing something here. It seems that if I want to time-stretch a loop, I need change the sample tempo in the sample settings, OR I need to lower the rate while pushing the pitch up to keep it at the same pitch. Is there an easier way to do this? Let’s say I have a drum loop and I want to program a sliced up beat where only the snare is stretched out in the pattern, is there an easy way to do this that I’ve overlooked?

I’m a bit confused as to exactly what you’re looking to do. Stretch a loop? Stretch a single snare? Stretch a slice? All on the same track or on separate tracks? There’s probably a way to do what you want but I can’t figure out exactly what you’re looking to do

The easiest is to have a perfect loop, with 0.5 bar, 1 bar, 2 etc…
You can set the right tempo in attributes.
Setting it with rate (TSTR Mode) is not easy.
If you don’t care about pitch and don’t like Time Stretch turn it of…

well if you have a sliced loop, then Im assuming you will have a bunch of steps in the track, each with a different slice… then you can p-lock the timestretch for whichever step you want

Can you PLOCK the timestretch in the sub menus?

Basically, I want to have a cut up loop on one track and only time stretch certain parts of it. So KICK SNARE KICK TS-SNARE KICK SNARE, for example.

You can plock rate, but only slower and pitch stays the same.
(Change rate to timestretch in sub menu)

Hmm. I’ll have to check that out. Thanks!

EDIT: Holy crap. I just looked in the manual and I never saw this before: RATE selects if the RATE parameter found in the main menu will affect the timestretch or pitch of the sample.

Exactly what I was looking for. Thanks!

And if you want go faster, I think you can set the bpm half/double (not sure) so a rate of 32 is normal. I think I read this, havnt tried it.

yeh it works i do this a lot to get a range both faster and slower… set BPM to double, then 32 becomes mid point

I made timestretch tracker style, using slide trigs on sample start but it is pretty clicky.

EDIT: Ooops, i thought you want to discuss different timestretching methods :relaxed:

Please tell us more, any knowlege is welcome here.

Set FLEX -> load sample
In Playback setup set LOOP ON and Length on TIME
On Playback page set LEN as something small, 1-6, on your personal taste
Set trigger on the 1st step and on the last step of your pattern. For the first step set STRT as 0 and for the last step as 127 or 126, something like that.
Then go to Track Trig Edit and set Slide triggers on this (1st and last) steps.
You’ll get crude cyclic timestretch

Ooooooooo.

This is why the OT is so mind boggling crazy. For all the limitations, there are a million other crazy things you can do.

Yeah, I think this is why I’ve clicked with it so much, because I love those weird little exploits and workarounds… treating electronic music like a game where you can find the secret levels/easter eggs by doing weird things
