So what do you guys think about the new machine on the tone work? So far for me it’s meh. It’s hard to get a good sound out of. It seems it destroys the sample TOO much. sample slicing with time shift would have been more useful. I don’t see myself using the granular thing at all. I’m sure slicing is coming though.
At least I hope it is I do love the box though it’s a good box I like the workflow it’s a little bit different than the other boxes as far as the effects go in the routing obviously and it does sound good
grainer is one of the things wich works great on tonverk and it sounds awesome
Are you familiar with granular synthesis ? Practice is needed.
All parameters interacts with each other.
Great new machine imo !
Fingers crossed for slice machine.
I really like it. It could be improved (the grains don’t crossfade very well and remain distinct and a bit ‘spikey’ imo), but after some deep meddling, i know what it’s good at now (playing chords = more grains = smoother grainclouds)
Yep ! Up to 64 grains. Here I used several notes with probability on the “mallets”.
Random lfo on POSition.
Grainer Timestretch (Shostakovich)
Don’t feed the trolls.
What’s a Tone Work ?
Every granular engine has a different sound. Cmon a granular engine with plocks and elektron sequencer . I like to layer a digitone2 sound with his grainer version it’s sick
I think you are correct… always learning
Any thoughts here on Grainer vs Tasty Chips Gr1 or GR mega? Just in terms of getting into granular ? cheers
Yea. I’m strugggling with the Grainer as well. I can’t find the best use for it. I don’t make ambient music.
I know the possibilities of granular synthesis and fx - some great plugins out there that can chop, stretch and rearrange sound. Portal by Output comes to mind.
But I keep trying and failing to get anything useful for house and techno out of Grainer.
I’ll keep trying though - a pad or texture maybe?
GR1 and GR Mega are granular beasts. Grainer is tasty, but cheap in comparison !
Grainer has 8 grains per voice, GR Mega has 128 grains per voice (up to 5000 grains)…
I’m thrilled Elektron put Grainer into the pot. It’s nice, just not for everything. Granular is super interesting to me and still appears to have a lot of room to grow and develop. I’ve had several eurorack granular modules, Endorphin.es Evil Pet, Arturia Fragments and Grainer in TV…none of them sound the same to me. I find it exciting that there appears to be many directions this technology can go in for years to come.
The best granular is still in software. Are you averse? Could recommend several if not. Quanta by audio damage was my first and I’ve used it extensively for all kinds of synth voices and for sound design needs. Recommend for great modulation depth. I prefer v2 to v3.
You can use granular for all kinds of things. Think of the grains as an oscillator. I’ve made great bass mono synth lines with a granular synth for example.
For techno have you tried the switch on grainer that makes it sync and be all stuttery? Dont remember what its called but is on page 2
ah cool , it has sync. My mate was telling me that sync with GS makes cool beats
if you need inspiration this guy uses granular in his techno https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NtruKvloE_M
