I typically start a track either with the Syntakt, or with the Opal M4L device in Ableton, maybe sometimes just some pads with a soft synth, and build a loop until it sounds full. Then, once the loop is done, I begin arranging. This process / workflow is fine, if a little arduous, yet sometimes I feel like the results are a little stiff — predetermined, lifeless, etc. I go back and try to implement some modulation and other things, and sometimes that does the trick.
Anyway, looking to include a more robust MIDI controller into my set up to maybe give the tracks a bit more life or motion. Has anyone here used the Akai APC40 MKII with Ableton for recording? Any thoughts?
