16 Tracks is not high up on my priority list.
The hardware is build for 8 Tracks and I think adding more Tracks for a couple of power user would degrade the UI for everyone else.
And while 16 Mono Tracks would be similar taxing on IO compared to 8 Stereo Tracks.
The Overhead for TrackFX / Automations / … would double.
I’d rather put the effort and CPU into features that align better with the design principles of Track8.

Thanks for the answer, appreciated. Yeah I don’t use a computer so I’m very familiar with hardware multitrackers. I don’t love to work based on waveform displays, they distract me, but that’s just me. I am also used to limitations (I made a record using only the Korg mini kaossilator, so it was all overdubbing one stereo track) and workarounds (e.g. use blank space in one track to add one occasional element, then automate pan to move it in the stereo space). But of course there’s an element of inconvenience in all of this as generally you’re tied to eq, fx for the track in question. So for the substantial price I was just wondering - compared say to a Tascam DP or similar.
I found it interesting that there’s a mastering section. As a solo composer, I don’t have much use for reversing and other gimmicks, but every user has its needs.
Yeah so I have the tascam dp24, the one with midi clock.
I was having fun with it, but it’s simply not remotely as rapid at arrangement. Also if I wanted to record drums via clock in time later on in the timeline it could never get it right.
Whereas track8 works anywhere on the timeline with midi synch. *Must start on the beat however
Also the wave editing, a very fun function which I’ve found myself using a lot! But it’s not necessary for everyone, it is just a very nice tool if you want to manipulate tracks.
The mastering section is very nice and a lot more options and visual feedback for that section. Way more possibilities than the tascam dp24!
I don’t miss having the extra tracks but I think the workaround would be to make the base structure of the song , then if you really need more tracks, you can bounce / export everything down to a new project, then add more on top from there.
Either way I don’t think I’ll ever want to use anything else than track8 from here on - and it’s definitely worth looking into even just to see how unique and special this box is. Plus it’s way lighter and smaller than the tascam
