Been playing around with making some videogame soundtrack stuff in different ways over the last few weeks, and I’ve started posting them on youtube to share them. Thought I’d make a thread here for them so anyone interested can give them a listen.

Did you imagine the game and make the images to compose to?
very cool music, imagined playing some old DOS games, I’m not familiar with the ones referenced in the tracks but felt like Heretic or something similar
Just listening to the original tracks over and over and making transcriptions, and then adjusting them to the limitations of the synths I used for the process and trying to get a combination of voices and sounds that work. I really love the way that videogame music relies on contrapuntal texture that is more similar to Medieval and Baroque music than it is to modern styles.
Thanks! Games from the same era as Heretic have always been a big influence on my tastes for sure, but I’m not too familiar with the Heretic soundtrack itself. Will take a look.
Edit: Yeah Heretic is good, very General Midi and inventive. Sounds great through an SC-55.
