@Woovebox, Tried to find it in the manual. Can you use a sample osc in the Chord track?
Wow, doing some IoT here I’m VERY impressed that you managed to pull all that off an ESP32
Hats off for that!
My hot takes:
- Feature-wise, it’s my dream machine. Compact, portable, complete with a bit of everything and a tactile interface
- UI-wise, I’m a bit worried: a few more buttons and maybe a second (or 3 more?) would have allowed for a much faster workflow, seeing the videos. Editing patches in depth and controlling synth live with only one knob seems a bit limiting
- Hardware-wise: I wouldn’t mind paying more for a more polished version with a proper case and maybe also a proper screen (128x32 OLED screens makes wonders with ESP32
), with a bit better looking knob
Now even though I said all that, this looks like a wonderful machine, filling a big gap. Even more, pulling all that of alone is astonishing! It’s easy to find flaws, and I’m sure you carefully balanced everything as much as you could regarding hardware limitations, components, assembly and price. This is truly a labor of love
I’ll see if my finances allow me to order one, as even if I have doubts as expressed earlier, I really would like to support your work
Ok I’ve gone through the manual, I’m sold.
Ordering from France, this gives 270$ with shipping, translating to ~320€ with 20% tax and import duties (around 20€ from my experience with the M8).
Honestly, seeing how indie devs call pull it off (with the Woovebox and M8), big companies like Roland, Korg and others needs to pay attention as limiting devices capabilities (like sampling or synth for Electribe, or channels/editing with MC-101) for only commercial reasons will start to show. I’m glad to live in an era where a single dev can release something like that to the world
Once I get it in my hands, I’ll probably have to decide whether I’ll keep this or the M8, but on paper the Woovebox is more my kind of workflow
This even has BLE!?
I think the UI is more accessible than you think. The dial goes to parameter groups then you use the buttons to jump to a parameter, and you can quickly jump back to the sequencer. But I’m not entirely sure my understanding is correct.
The online manual is pretty incredible.
Awesome to hear that! The voice count seem to be able to compete (or even exceed) those of official Teensy-Based projects!
I always failed with usb midi on the ESP boards, so I ended with teensy for every project
I’ve read through the manual yet I have 2 things I’m not sure about:
- Is it possible to save presets patches? It says you can load them, but nothing about saving
- Is there any motion recording / plocks?
Cool little device!
I’ve seen that, though I’ve also seen that menu diving is everywhere, with 4 letters lingo everywhere
I’m perfectly fine with the OP-Z/PO/M8 shortcuts and all, but this seems a level way above than, and my brain hurts just going through the manual to decrypt the 4 letters meanings and trying to remember it all
Maybe it’s just because I’m getting older…
Per step conditionals, but as there’s no sound pool, I doubt you can p lock more than one sound to a track if that’s what you’re asking. I’m just guessing based on the overall articulation of the descriptions regarding the feature set, that if it’s not called out by name, it’s probably not possible. I’m sure our friend will be along to confirm though, I may be proven incorrect.
I was asking more about plocks for stuff like filters, synth parameters etc. I’ve the built in automations in song more though, but I’m wondering if there’s an equivalent of the PO “tweak n record” plocks.
I see. hopefully that’s part of the “100+ step modifier types” which accompanies the per step conditional, but I suppose we’ll have to wait for confirmation.
Duh. It’s almost like he’s avoiding running up costs, in order to keep this a budget device for everyone.
This looks super cool. I saw the Free Beat video but I’m wondering if we’re going to see some more hip-hop or even house oriented folks get a go at it. I just want to see someone put the sampler through the paces.
A Woovebox with Tracker Mini and it’s game over
:dizzy:🫠
im also curious about the sampler side of this. love my ko33. would like something with more. this totally seems like my holiday gift this year! very awesome looking device.
if I’m not mistaken this was done in the freebeats video, switching samples one track playing a whole beat.
This is very cool, and great to see another AU crafted machine. I have some freinds in Melbourne that would love this as well. Is it true, according to order page, that it can’t be shipped to Australia at the moment?
Well done. 10 hours of battery life and individual track export? Amazing job ,really and a great price.
I was thinking more along the lines of the synth engine, like how digitone would use the sound pool, but even if you can do per step on one track with sample locks, that’s still dope. I’m really curious about how the resampling sounds in a hip hop context too.
