Found it, it’s

but bear in mind this was in 2019.

You absolute legend, thanks so much. Will send an email now
For anyone wondering, the email is mail@synthesizerservice.de
I mapped out all programming parameters in a spreadsheet some time back. It is interesting to look at it all laid out in terms of sound design maybe.
Awesome vid man. You really did a great job illustrating what makes the Virus so special.
Thanks! I think it’s really underrated especially today that it’s somewhat left the collective consciousness
Awesome video man! So good to see people digging into this synth again. I just got one recently and am still learning just how deep the sound design can go.
Where is this bode-style frequency shifter? Based on the LEDs - it looks like you have a “filter bank” effect under “Others”?
I have a TI2 and the only thing that shows up under “Others” is the vocoder. Am I digging in the wrong place?
I do this from memory because I am not at my TI2 right now.
If you go to “others” you can go left or right with the (hope this is correct) parameter buttons.
You then reach the other “other” fx like filters, freq shift etc.
The reason why the Virus is so underrated atm is that it´s not analog.
This is a bias in thinking about and judging gear (and other things in life) as the analog revival is “the thing” atm.
Another reason may be that the Virus has this phantastic qualitiy of not making things much louder when you change anything.
This sets it apart from (imho) all analog equipment where you have to deal with loudness bias all the time.
Simple example is the filter drive. You are hearing a shift in texture and sound not in volume which can lead you to the impression of weakness (it´s not, it´s a strength).
If you drive the filter of a moog sub 37 you get this shift in texture/sound AND a huge amount of loudness.
This sounds mighty and most of all louder and it´s appealing but missleading.
Not to say that the Moog isn´t a phantastic synth (it is in fact).
It may need updating to the last OS.
One of the real strengths of the virus is how clear it is to program. You can look at every parameter and see the value it sits at. Whilst I love the sound of my Super 6 you flying blind when trying to reverse engineer a patch.
This + it’s kinda old… while I think it was simple way ahead of times and was released when everybody was doing super-saw trance patches.
Just had a discussion about it being a trance-machine… seems this marvelous synth will always have that sticker on it… it is and can do so much more!
Tell you what…I don´t care and it amuses me when I get asked where this great “analog” and other sounds come from.
Btw: Aren´t these “sought after” synths much older?
Not that I did not like these. I was a long time Juno owner. But the truth is:
The day I sold it was the last time I thought about it.
you might need to update your OS
Happily I was right. When you open the vocoder, use the parameter buttons to go to the filter-bank an choose which mode you want to use.
I don’t care either
The synth sounds fantastic in almost any situation and as I just experienced is a lot of fun live.
Thanks! You’re right. I didn’t try the parameters/bank button. That menu starts out on “Vocoder 1/1” so I didn’t think there were more pages.
Just figured that out, too, like 2 weeks ago…
This is so on the money.

I’ve had a long back-of-the-mind fascination with the Virus range, but always put off taking the plunge because I thought “it’s digital, all software, why should I buy an external box that’s basically doing what a plug-in could do?”. I fully appreciate how ridiculous that probably sounds!
I’d flirted with a more OTB/hybrid setup in the past, but came to the conclusion that a primarily ITB setup is definitely my thing. I ended up taking the plunge with the Virus Snow as I figured the Total Integration functionality would basically work like a plug-in, and the more audio demos and videos I saw/heard of it being played the more I realised it was for me. I’ve never looked back - the official VST functionality was good to start, but I ended up going the Mystery Islands/VirusHE route when I upgraded to a full-fat TI2 desktop anyway.
I love that the DSP56300/Osiris project is a thing, and I love the idea that at some point in the future I might be able to run the TI2 as a plug-in of sorts. That said - there’s just something about having an actual instrument at your fingertips rather than a plug-in that encourages a different way of working, and I can’t see myself ever selling it. I love having it right there in front of me, and it’s become my main workhorse synth. Good instruments will always sound good, and I really wish I’d taken the plunge sooner.
