The Rant I sent Elektron this mornign

I just want to load some samples and make some music and I can’t take the frustration with this drum machine any longer.

Seriously, the Sample section in Rytm is extremely pathetic. It’s a terrible process trying to get samples into Rytm. It’s a terrible process trying to manage samples. It’s a terrible process trying figure out what samples to load into the drum machine. You can’t even audition! The horrible C6 method of trying to put samples into the rytm takes ALL creative energy a way. By the time I’m done trying to get my samples into this drum machine, I have no creative ENERGY LEFT!. What were you guys thinking? It’s so backwards. Getting samples into S1000 in 1995 with a floppy was easier. You have somehow managed to create a drum machine that is actually harder to use than it was in 1995. Don’t even start with your half baked overbridge. It completely locks up my computer so don’t even try and tell me to use Overbridge. I had to completely uninstall Overbridge to get Ableton running again. HOW ABOUT THIS? Drag and drop. Even crappy synths allow you to drag and drop sounds into hardware.

BTW, the pads suck too. Hard as hell to use with no dynamics. You should be ashamed of putting out such a piece of half baked hardware. Man, you get hardware to inspire musically. This thing is a total pain in the ass. I’m just trying to load samples and can’t EVEN FIGURE OUT HOW TO GET FROM FOLDER TO FOLDER INSIDE THIS CRAPPY THING> EPIC FAIL on all levels.

OH BY THE WAY drum machine 101. put FINE TUNE ON YOUR DRUMS SO YOU CAN ACTUALLY TUNE THEM.

FINE TUNE!!! JUST PUT IT IN THERE!!! AAHHHHHHHH

Why?

Loading up samples in the RYTM is def a PIA, but its a great machines. The pads break in after a month or so. Elektron will tell you “its not a sampler” as an excuse for it not having advanced editing. It’s for layering drum sounds. That said there is an update coming eventually to make the sample handling better. Until then, just spend a day loading all your fav samples so you have them on the machines. Then you are ready to go and don’t have to worry about it for a while. The RYTM is def the least spontaneous sampler ever when it comes to the actual sampling part, so you can’t put it in the same category as say and OP-1 where you can just sample anything and play with it right away no fuss.

I don’t have an AR. You mean when scrolling through samples on the AR you can’t preview before loading one to a track?

Perhaps OP can also do what’s mentioned in this video I recently watched. He recommends wiping the pads with a fine cloth. Apparently he says that does what the breaking down process does: it removes the waxy film on the surface, which for some reason results in more useable pads.

interesting , i have heard the pads can be a bit stiff on the rytm , wonderif thats a similar issue , at the op , damn dude its a drum machine with a bit of sampling frown in, ill be buying one soon and wont be expecting the world , octatrack next on the list for those purposes

Today i bought the AR and despite this issues with the long loading-times for the samples and the hard pads and many other things people are moaning about, i think Elektron is going to develope it as much like it happend with the machinedrum.

Im going to enjoy it very much…

I wonder if this may speed up transfer times as it did for me with the A4: turn MIDI Out from the default MIDI+USB to USB only.

Transfers that took 10+ min on the A4 suddenly took 10+ seconds.

This thing is half baked. Here’s a great example:

It’s a drum synthesizer yet the Hat engine has 3 controls one of which is TUNE and the other is DECAY. So, the only actual synthesizer control for the hat engine is COLOR. This is what’s called half baked.

Ya I get it, someday in the future if they happen to have time, we can look forward to some sort of update. However, right now, the idea that you can’t even audition a sample before loading it into the sad little hard drive, is incredibly pathetic in my book.

Er, you can audition the samples. FUNCTION + YES when you’re in the list, if I recall correctly.

I guess many of you have never had the chance to work with an MPC where there’s the ability to tune the sensitivity of the pads. So, you can play with your fingers at night when the family is sleeping. These pads have no dynamics to them and there’s no settings to change the velocity or hardness.

Just stiff pads that have to slam to get something out of…

Michael that’s nice. I stand corrected!

yeah…

some of you guys should stick to software…

the AR is my favorite drum machine and i’ve owned sp1200, mpc 60, mpc 2000, mpc 2000xl, asr-x, octatrack …

the rytm is my favorite. loading samples aint that hard and doesnt take long…but like others suggested - i just loaded everything on it when i got it and now its all there

its not hard managing folders or moving samples right on the machine… i have never used overbridge and dont intend on it

the time you took to write this post you could have been transferring all your samples

take a deep breath man… many people love the machine and if its not for you…sell it

but it seems like you want immediate satisfaction… thats personal

the sample audition is right in the manual…maybe you should start there

and the akai samplers were SAMPLERS… if you can find anywhere on the RYTM where it says its a sampler lemme know!!! its a drum machine with sample playback…

there has never been a drum machine like it

[li]Yes you can preview sample.[/li]
[li]Loading samples in the AR is not that difficult. Maybe the first time to setup? [/li]
[li]Pads get better with time and use.[/li]
[li]Lots of synths don’t even have software edition.[/li]
[/ol]

Anyway…It seems the MPC is better for you!
It doesn’t mean the AR is not a good machine.

I would also add that, you should consider the size of the box when it comes to the usability of the pads. I agree w/ some of your ranting.

Show us an equivalent analog drum machine that has more controls for the hi hats. And sample playback.

Man, you are on fire, aren’t you?!
I guess it will take some time till this machine gets matured.

forum 101: have something useful to contribute
.
what a load of half-baked whiney noise

to OP… I feel ur resentment!

Sell it and buy something you love.
