The NID Tapes: Electronic Music from India 1969-1972

Not sure if anyone has posted this already (quick search suggested that not). I find this album sonically interesting and inspiring in more ways than one.

Here the accompanying txt on Bandcamp for anyone interested in the back story:

The NID Tapes’ presents a collection of early Indian electronic music uncovered at the archives of the National Institute of Design in Ahmedabad. Recorded between 1969-1972 the compilation chronicles electronic works from the previously unknown Indian composers Gita Sarabhai, I.S. Mathur, Atul Desai, S.C. Sharma and Jinraj Joshipura who worked at the nation’s first electronic music studio founded at the NID during the utopian years following India’s independence - a radical period of visionary experimentation and artistic free-thought.

I saw this when it came out and was really excited by the prospect… unfortunately a quick listen through when it was first release left me cold…
I’ll have another listen in view of your enthusiasm ! Thanks for the reminder

I‘m into Ragas and Indian music theory, I can hear elements / influences of that musical tradition coming through here in a lovely way, which is the bit that excites me the most

Hi folks - great to see the NID Tapes getting some love here - we’re also publishing a companion book, edited by Paul Purgas, which will be available from us next month, and in wider distribtution in January:

We’re hoping that as of next week copies of the book bought direct from us (Strange Attractor Press) will come with an MP3 download of the album - and this will be sent to anyone who has already bought it as well.
