A lot of great posts, no doubt.
For those of you who do one take recordings, what are some of your go to tips when it comes to prep, arranging, and mastering?
(If this is the right place to ask.).

Prep: Have some sounds ready independent of sequencing, have some sequences that can be assigned to any sound, also some variations of the seq too. I don’t normally arrange when do improv, just feel it and go in the direction you want to go, more energy or less, take something out and bring something new in…just follow your path. Mastering? sometimes just something end of chain to glue things together, either hardware like Heat, or software apps on iOS, any of the FAC stuff ( https://fredantoncorvest.com ) like punch lab, Maxima or Medusa. Oh, most importantly, listen as you play, like you’re in the audience. have fun to, feck everybody else

My own approach:
-prepping for me is mostly just playing and learning; before the recording I have an idea where to start and the starting sounds and levels should be ok
-I do live improvisation so arrangements happen live; I try to decide what the loudest element is and never surpass that
-mistakes and things that don’t work are ok, I just move on and try something else
-one drum machine and two synths is the maximum for me to control effectively in a live situation; often even one synth is enough
-I don’t master my stuff besides some rough limiting, I want to focus on improving my live mixing instead

How do you tend to organize your sequences? I use a Cirklon so good likely map a convention to mine rather easily.

Thanks for everyone’s input. Everyone in some way confirmed my observations and what I “hear” when I listen back to artists I particularly jive with.

I don’t really organise to be honest. Typically I’d have one pattern on the Digitakt , so 8 midi track max, maybe 4 mono, 4 chords or melodic…variations would come from holding FILL…but I can also shorten the length , reduce probability %100 or lower, remove or copy paste trigs, play in live notes (quantised) then FUNC + YES to reloadtp get back to ‘home’…i feel all them options are more than enough for any session… I guess nuance can also help, trig length , velocity env etc…lfos can help here but also manually con do it. Practice being quick at these and listen as you make changes.
Never tried a Cirklon, I should check out some vids on it as it’s an old time classic still standing tall…

For modular techno, my eurorack 4u case with Endorphin.es Queen of Pentacles drum module that has 7 voices plus effects slaps hard and I use Winter Modular Eloquencer sequencer with a small Eurorack mixer.

Not best recording and I need to make a better new recording once my ankle heals. Besides the Jomox eurorack bass drum module, I found the Queen of Pentacles the best 909 modular bass drum. For modular, these two are fat kick drums and I love pair them with other stuff like WMD percussion modules and Noise Engineering BIA.
the Queen of Pentacles sounds intense.
