What a nice thread!
I might be late to the party @grate_expectations anyway, I researched the loop-based transition-topic quite heavily in the last few years. I apologize in advance for any redundancy but this thread is so long!
This is what I found work best around this topic:
Boss RC 202
Mod Dwarf
1010 Blackbox
Kaoss Pad 3
I owned and tested all of them except for the Kaoss Pad.
The Boss is the one the worked better in my opinion, especially for capturing the loop, only thing is the volume in/out experience was not the best on a knob. Also the device is ugly (personal taste).
Mod Dwarf also worked nicely and you can customise you pedal board with also some filter etc. hard to get the loop synced perfectly sometimes.
1010 Blackbox also work for that, but I hate the UX, very prone to mistakes, at least for me.
Haven’t tried the Kaoss but it works, plus you have some cool FX. The new Kaoss allows to record and loop more bars.
What I coulnd’t find was a device that switch automatically the live track for the looped track once done. 1010 Blacbox did that, but I found the whole process on that small screen difficult.
Of course that there is Octatrack, but that is a different game. For what I’ve seen it can be done, but needs lot of preparation.
Lastly, there was a Xone mixer with a looper per channel ,but is not on catalog anymore, was very expensive, and very big. @DaveMech had some videos about it.
Honestly I ended up abandoning the loop idea all together and focus on single track jams. I don’t play live (at least for now) and I found trying to produce tracks in the box very tiresome. So I switched to structured jams to bridge the gap between spontaneity and control. I don’t do 100% live improv, but all my jams are live takes.

Oh, I also remember some other live techno artists on YouTube saying they don’t care about DJ-like transitions. There is a Surco + EZbot very enjoyable video in which @SURCO talks about it and his philosophy around it.

I like the sound but the improvisational aspect of the music gets lost if it only runs for 15 seconds.

heres some new stuff indrustral techno on eurorack and some friends. have been using alot of contact mic insturments. frogot to hit recording on my mixer till about 20 min in so first 20 min is cam mic only then the proper recording.

Excellent! Can you explain how you trigger the Swarm? In which mode are you using it?

@ccr Sure! I’m triggering the swarm from the Digitakt, but playing chords, swarm is in poly mode, with the swarm seq stopped/not enabled….i think you’d normally play/use poly mode with each of the 8pads on the swarm but I’m doing this via midi from Digitakt. Tbh I’ve always used the swarm in mono mode, it’s the 1st time I’ve used it this way and am seeinghearing the swarm in a new light. Also, velocity seems to affect the tone. Hope that helps!
