the bass sounds good, the drums and guitars are stepping on each other, guitar solo and bass have good separation and guitar 2 seems to stand out from the drums more than the main guitar, however the guitars and bass sort themselves out fine. I feel like if I were mixing and eq’ing the rev2 in this mix I would turn it down a little and put a low shelf on it. I don’t know if this is at all helpful, I hear good separation mostly but like I said, the guitar and the temporary drum beat are somehow too close to the same intersection. Nice little ditty though.
OK I think Im hearing similar…When I was first doing it on octatrack it had a linndrum kick. Those seem to sit perfect in mixes but they’re also soooo 80s new wave:)…which is cool now. Thank you fine sir for the quick and thoughful response!
no problemo, and I know how the wrong vibe can come from something simple like a kick. Changing it can change the entire feel but also sonically can throw things off if you’ve been working around one and switch to another.
yeah you got good ears…when I listen after your thoughts, exactly when the guitars kick in, the drums become a flat tire…interesting! And yes the vibe does change. I don’t have linndrum decked out in logic at the moment.
I’ll take that as a compliment
Bass sounds great!! Sits well in the mix!
Which Bassrig did you get?
A proper bass preamp is in my future!
I got the super vintage svt. Yeah i just listened in my car, which is a good test. Id say it rivals any bass sound ive recorded. But it still wasnt all the way full like pro recording full….but i guess thats why i am not a studio engineer:).
Getting this beauty next week but wanted to share cause I’m extremely excited
Done by a small luthier here in Italy, loaded with P90s and a Les Trem.
Can’t wait to get it!
Anyone in here tried the Boss BP-1W yet?
Looks like a mahogany body, should sound cool with p90’s and the maple neck. Great rock tones.
I figured out that the preamp tube that came with my champ was a JJ ECC81 / 12AT7 and not a 12AX7 so the gain factor was like 60 and a 12AX7 has a gain factor of 100. It honestly sounded really good with the ECC81 tube, super mellow and chimey, but I picked up a vintage long plate KEN-RAD 12AX7 and it’s hard to describe how much it changed the character of the amp. Really seems to have woken up.
I might have to record an A/B comparison with my looper and my zoom recorder to see if the change is as drastic as what I feel like I’m hearing right now. Certainly, if nothing else the placebo effect is strong with this one, particularly so when I have a fuzz pedal engaged.
Thats Step 1 to changing Tweed bassman to Marshall jtm45 eh!
Well shall i say, swapping out an at for an ax…
It’s almost distractingly different, I really have to get used to it. It sounds a lot more like my classic 30 now than it did an hour ago, I’d describe it as very articulate. Classic 30 has 12AX7’s and EL84’s. I’m going to try an older 6V6G black plate in the next few days and I’ll mix and match the EHX 6V6GT / JJ 12AT7/ Ken-rad (GE) 12AX7 / Zenith (RCA) 6V6G until I’m happiest with what I’m hearing. I might even consider grabbing one of the groove tubes 12AX7’s out of my classic 30 just for addotional data.
It will be annoying if I spent money on tubes and don’t end up using one of them right now, but it’s hard to say what your ears will like best until you’ve actually heard it. I’m going to do it again after I put in the other speaker and try to be methodical about this and make an educated decision. Not like I’m committed to leaving them in there forever but figuring out what you want to hear is probably the most difficult part of determining what you’re actually hearing.
The quest never stops and i love it! There are people who only have tv for a hobby:). No judgement but i say we are blest.
Man, it sounds really incredible with the fuzz engaged like, way better than before, but I might have liked the clean tones with the AT7 better, it was really round sounding. Super hard for me to judge it right now because I was only accustomed to hearing it the one way.
I got a little 5 band eq/boost pedal off reverb for like $15 and I wasn’t sure if I would use it, but I might end up messing around with it and see if I can dial some roundness back in with a slight tweak. Kind of goes against the champ ethic but may be just what the doctor ordered.
Sorry i erred. Tweed bassman is a 12ay7 45 gain factor:). I swap that out with 12ax7 and 12at7 sometimes and like all results.
How do you feel about 5751’s?
Havent tried one! Google tells me 70 gain factor. Goldilocks!?
I dont even like tube amps anymore anyways. Im only into emulations now. Ha! Jk but i do like the lion and i want a dream 65 for no good reason considering i have the real thing!
I thought I was over it but I was so wrong. I’m going through a phase (inverter). I need to be rectified.
