THE ELEKTRON STATION: Just got the octatrack mk1 today in the mail to play with the other four. It’s a bit intimidating, but I’m getting it! Need to RTFM more and watch videos! A little worried about the octatrack screen as it looks a bit faded / washed out, but hopefully it lasts!
I’m addicted to elektron. Need RYTM next, and if I was rich I’d love a monomachine and machinedrum lol.
Achievement unlocked: completionist (get five different pieces of gear from one manufacturer).
I think I never got past three, but that is still more than Valve.
Great setup, with the floating wide ones.
My guess is that getting this deep into one line of thinking must increase productivity. Because everything is built roughly along the same philosophy. Or does diversity train the brain?
Edit: hang on, is there that much colour difference with the syntakt?!
I like the workflow a lot on these boxes. They share the same types of workflow most times, but sometimes a little different. Yeah the syntakt is actually blacker!
…long time elektron user here…and as somebody who had at some point five of them in use at once, i must tell u, that more than three at once is not really practical or musical truuly relevant anymore…
but everybody gotto find out for themselves, which combo remains essential for them, end of the day…
for now, hold ur gas and give ot some time to settle in…to learn it not inside out would be a big waste of it’s potential…
too many have it and never realize what it can do for real…
while others do whole breathtaking albums with it ONLY…
it’s one thing to own them all…and another to really use them all…
i hardly doubt, that u really know ur syntakt by now already…so take ur time…
if ur not a deep diver with real intensions, i can defenitly state, last thing u “need” now is a rytm on top of them all…
fancy collections of gear don’t lead to fancy music…but focus and level of knowing ur gear inside out does…
To me they are indeed musical relevant. I mean having 10 elektron boxes hooked up is no different then a guitar player with 10 guitar pedals or more, or a modular synth player with more then 20 modules etc…
The beauty is you can find difference in all of them, and the other beauty is no rule on using them all at the same time or any combination rule lol
I’m finding enjoyment in them and enjoying learning them little by little by manual, videos or mistakes and that is important or else why have them if you don’t enjoy them in someway.
Also love the elektron flow, so if you pretty much know your way around one box, it’s pretty much the same on another
I’m having some weird issue that I can’t figure out yet and only started since adding octatrack yesterday into the mix…
So I have octatrack into analog four into digitone into syntakt into digitakt. Everything worked fine before octatrack came to play…
but now when I have some pattern going on in octatrack and using one of the other four boxes after it, the notes stutter on the other machines sometimes. Like makes a fast tremolo effect. I can’t pin point the issue.
Sounds like your Octatrack might be sending midi down the chain and messing with random parameters. Maybe double check your non-OT boxes and make sure they aren’t receiving notes or CCs, and/or make sure OT isn’t sending any unncessary midi info.
And if your are sure you only send midi clock from OT (no midi tracks, MIDI > CONTROL > CC OUT = INT), check which machines have that problem.
If problems are at the end of the daisy chain, maybe you’d need a midi thru box, or a midi patchbay…if you want them all…
So far I found out it’s only track 8 doing it for some reason. I’m trying to cross reference each track to see what the cause of it is, but nothing yet! I’ll keep picking apart things and looking!
Audio track 8 ? No midi tracks ?
For information audio tracks don’t send midi with the sequencer. They send midi CCs or Notes messages only if you turn knobs, or press trigs, specific buttons…
Settings to disable it in MIDI > CONTROL > INT for Notes and CCs.
Crossfader can also interfere with other machines. I think this is still not in the manual :
Crossfader uses lowest audio track midi channel to send CC48. Default is channel 1, but if a midi track uses channel 1, crossfader channel becomes channel 2. If another midi track uses channel 2, it becomes 3…etc
No midi tracks. Just pressing a trig on track 8 on octatrack with internal sound I loaded to track 8 and it’s the only track that makes the rest of my elektron box make this stuttering / jittery sound when they’re playing. No other track does it.
