…wait a second…u tried to give the rytm the master clock job…!?
of course ur daw must be master in such a setup…
well, then…now u know…whenever there’s any kind of daw involved with hardware, the hardware must follow the daw if u wanna end up with arrangergrid matching results…
Just upgraded my MacBook (the old one lasted 12 years!) and Bitwig seems streets ahead of Live, Reason and even Logic in working with apple silicon.
Hard to see how the rest can catchup without a complete rethink of how they handle plug-ins. The Reason rack, under Rosetta2, works better in Bitwig than as the standalone Reason application!
After using Reaktor and now getting a dfam and a crave, I realize that I will fall victim to eurorack, and that the main thing is touching the buttons. Touching the buttons is fun.
Oh, I don’t own bitwig, just always thinking about buying it, so I monitor this thread But I dig the dfam and I’m looking into how to route ableton into it.
Edit: are you trying to route cv or audio into bitwig?
Plugin Boutique has a “crossgrade from any paid DAW” Bitwig offer going on right now, 40% off. I just bought it, and there was no check whatsoever to see if I actually owned another DAW.
Been studying Bitwig grid (one of my favorite rabbithole’s) again, watching a bunch of tutorials and this popped up via YouTube algo’s. Very interesting and useful for people looking for more reverb!
Does anyone know of a way to edit a notes velocity without using the mouse? I know about alt+shift+drag but I have a much easier time editing on the keyboard.
Hi all Iv’e just seen that there’s a cross grade deal going on with Bitwig until 13th September. I have it in my basket online for £199 I have Ableton Suite and Logic Pro it says on the website if I own these I can cross grade however it’s not asking me for any proof that I own another daw at checkout so anyone know how this works? I have Bitwig 8 track and loving it but would like the full version now. So how does a cross grade work here thanks?
I read on Reddit that someone got called up after ordering to discuss the crossgrade but 99% of everything else I’ve read has been full of “no checks at all” type chat.
I came incredibly close to going for it but then I realised that despite being an Ableton user for years, my actual knowledge of that DAW was pretty ropey and most of what I liked in Bitwig was achievable in Live. £200 saved then though I’m sure future offers for Bitwig 5 or 6 in years time will turn my head again!
I bought a cross grade to Bitwig 4 a couple of weeks ago from Sweetwater (missed out on their $199 sale by a day, but ended up getting it for $299). No checks here. If they had checked, no big deal since I own Logic and Reason.
Dipping my toes into Bitwig (4.0, only version I’ve used), I have a couple of preliminary thoughts.
For some reason I am not sure I can quite explain, I find using the Grid much easier, intuitive and useful than I ever have using Reaktor Blocks or Cherry Audio’s Voltage Modular. I can easily whip up several different kinds of synthesizers, with different envelopes, filters, modulators and other detailed tweaks. I am amazed at how fluid it feels. With Blocks and Control Voltage I end up spending a bunch of time at the front end connecting everything to the exact right port to get what I want, and the Grid lets me combine things without having to worry so much about the interface aspects of making it really work. I suppose the Grid is more like using the front face of Reason (adding a device connects the most sensible cables between devices so you don’t have to flip it around and do it yourself every time).
I am used to Logic, which has a much cleaner interface than Bitwig (at lease with the way they are initially set up), even though Logic is every bit as deep, or if you think about the “environment” deeper than Bitwig (arguable, I know). I am still trying to get things set up in Bitwig so I can see what I want to see without seeing more than I need to see. I think eventually the browser inside Bitwig will be really great, once I get used to it. I am used to Logic having independent Browsers for instruments, FX, Midi, EQ and Channel Strip. For now, Bitwig seems to encapsulate into its browser everything all at once, requiring you to narrow down your search each time in the various columns that appear. Again, I assume there’s a way to reign this in, and configure the browser in whatever way works for you, but I haven’t spent enough time with it (spending so much enjoyable time in the Grid and FX Grid).
Anyone using one of the Novation Launchpads with Bitwig? I’ve never been one for clip based jamming / arranging but have been getting into it more of late and like the idea of a dedicated bit of hardware for it.
I can see there’s bunch out there at various price points that will get you from very basic clip/scene launching through to flashy mixing, editing and sequencing bits but I’m not sure where in between I want to land.
Looking for a nice middle ground between cost and functionality.
I use a Launchpad Mini MK3 with the Moss scripts and it works quite well. But sometimes I miss the velocity sensitive pads from the bigger launchpads. Now am looking for a Push 2. The pads seem to bee much better and the knobs and display are super cool.
I use a Launchpad X with Bitwig, it’s a really nice expressive interface with velocity sensitive pads, and with the Driven By Moss scripts already mentioned by @arsc and @porkloin work really well- I got it on sale and it wasn’t super expensive. I would say that for me personally, I tend not to use clip launching that much (coming from Logic) but it certainly works well for that.
