…yooohooooo…FIVE POINT THREE…
and some “little” sidenotes…
It run out when exactly?
…afaik…if a beta version is released during ur actual upgrade plan, ur still provided by the final release version of that beta, even if ur upgrade plan has ran out in the meantime…
that freq shifter is dope
It hasn’t always been like that for sure, I had 3.1 beta, but then was left with 3.0 since my plan had ran out before 3.1 was released.
Account says it expired 13th February
Ah ok - thats the case with me then. Cheers
Starting from one of 5.x they’ve changed the rule - if your license has been active the day beta started, you’re eligible for full release even if it expires during the beta ![]()
I’ve been looking at cubase since it has good video integration but I never felt the need to switch from bitwig since davicni resolve is a good and free video editor for personal use. You seem to need it professionally but do you need anything else that’s native in bitwig for your work? If not, you can try it out creatively and get some variation from ableton.
…oooonoooo…first time i can’t hear a thing, after updating bitwig…
i’m running mac os ventura on m1 mbp…
and bitwig has changed the audio settings…before it always said…core audio…and offered input and output options…now it’s all in one and all i see is…mac audio system…
but even when interface attached…i can choose it’s driver but bitwig remains silent…while showing gain and everything looks normal…but no sound…what am i missing here…???
when i open the old version…all is fine again…but 5.3’s new audio settings seem to cancel me out…aaaaargh…
aaaaaahhhh…solved…also missed out on the new monitor settings…was not activated until now…everything work now as expected again…puh…
Hi, I have a novice question. I got a plugin (HoRNet SongKey MK4) to extract tempo from live audio, but I’m struggling to send the extracted tempo back to the master tempo of Bitwig. I’ve been looking for settings or other devices but I’m coming up short.
Can anyone advise?
I’m actually able to run the plugin standalone and it is able to just send midi out to whatever, but i’d love to use the plugin in Bitwig directly.
yeah I could, but I use hardware instruments most of the time. When I open up ableton, I already have some idea for a more “serious” project capture, which will then be taken down in ableton. I have worked with it for so long that using it comes from muscle memory. I’m more in the camp that uses the DAW mainly as a linear multitrack editor with automation, instead of someone who looks for inspiration from new things one can do with it.
Dont get me wrong, that stuff was fun around 2003-2013, but I just kind of got fed up with the endless churn of ever evolving software. I suppose I am more into simple things than DSP experimentation at the end of the day. Bitwig on the other hand appeals to me because of its flexibility, its capable of streamlining many complex tasks one does with a DAW
I’m not sure how well it works, but since 5.2 Bitwig was supposedly able to analyze audio clip and apply the resulting tempo “map” to the master track?
…all realtime tempo detecting technology has it’s struggles to do it’s job properly if there’s not a clear pulse, like an obvious straight four to the floor kik…
if not, it’s guesses are almost as good as ur own…
it only worx properly without such a clear pulse, if the overall time length of an audiofile is already fixed in relation to it’s rhythmical content…and even then, if there’s is no obvious rhythmical pattern to detect, it often fails…
u better get used to listen and knock the quarter notes along to what u hear…
so load a particular audio file into bitwig, set it to raw mode, hold the control key and tap the tempo in manually…just hover ur cursor over the playbutton and start hitting whatever u click with in quarter notes while pressing control key…
then define the first bar and cut the file there…set another cut before the last “first” bar…this way, u have defined an absolute overall length…then set it back to one of the stretch modes and set ur final tempo accurately to ur liking…
since what u’ve tapped will show u no dot zero tempo of course…but it will show u where it’s basically at for sure…
this way, ur always on the safe side…no matter how long that piece of external music might be…
sure, all this is no realtime approach…but afaik, that already pretty aged plugin u’d like to use, is no vst3 and/or clap format…so using it within bitwig is hopeless, i’m afraid…
but as said, i’m not aware of any realtime temo detection plugins that really work solid…
they all fluctuate/jitter in realtime and won’t provide any kind of static click/sync track to trust on and work along with…
Thanks both for your input, I will check out the internal options for further analysis.
The mk4 version of the plugin is a VST 3 actually as well as standalone. Should also clarify I’m looking to use live audio. So your point about not having a fixed time or cropped audio file is important and I will consider that.
…if ur live input for realtime tempo detection can offer a clear and straight forward pulse, apart from some small amount of constant back and forth jitter fluctuations which is always an unavoidable part of any midi and whatnot else sync missions, and those devices/missions which have to follow along with/rely on that to fulfill their sonic duties, u should be always fine…
but back to topic…bitwig 5.3 is awesome…!
I’d be using piezo contact mics on the snare or kick. I’ve been poking around Midi Guitar 3 so my whole direction might be changing.
But yeah 5.3 rules. I mean bitwig in general rules, and I rarely use the majority of features, but I love watching other people work.
On that topic, I would prefer to not use my personal laptop for shows. Any cheapish recommendations? I’ll search through the thread but still asking for up-to-date takes.
…if u don’t need much vst3 plugins in particular, any relatively cheap, halfway actual laptop running linux will be ur best friend, when it comes to bitwig…
and if ur able to split ur live channels and just use those two contact mic signals for realtime tempo detection, there’s a good chance, u can relay on that to sync up the whole rest…
while drumming live and expect a whole ballpark of other sonic elements to chime in accordingly is usually not first choice…
in any such cases, it’s more common to make it work the other way around…
most modern drummers try to conquer the challenge to play along to clicktracks/playbacks/monitormixes that are somewhat predefined…
any pro drummer for hire these days is judged by their capacity/skills how fluid and easy peasy they can just hop onto and deliver natural grooves to any given clicktrack/playback they hear on their monitoring…
and end of the day, it’s “only” a pita at first…but once u get used to it, practice/rehearse/train that for a little while, u find urself enabled to conquer pretty much anything with ease…
I’m interested in buying the Bitwig Studio Essentials license. Is it ever on sale? Or does anyone know of another way of getting it at a discounted price? Second hand, perhaps?
It usually goes on winter and summer sales but second hand could work. Check here obviously, KVR forum, modwiggler forum and maybe facebook.
