Looking at the geometry on the four boards shown, maybe. The little board with the joystick could be put next to the right part of the long control surface and make a more square module minus the keybed. As it is set up now it pretty clearly says to me keyboard synth.
Am i wrong in my last post, aren’t there more controls on the original ?
If you count the knobs, there are three more on the original I think. This excludes the six faders for the modulation/LFO routing, but they might have chosen a different implementation for those. Also there seem to be loads more switches on the original. Maybe they replaced a few switch groups with single switches with «click-through» implementation.
The Synthex is one of those synths I found it strange that they didn’t start cloning right from the start. One of the truely great polysynths.
Could Behringer have like a preorder “club” where we get every new synth/ drum machine as soon as they are built, sent straight to us. I suppose like a reviewer but buy to keep. I would seriously buy everything they are planning to make.
If and only if it cost you nothing to preorder then yes a Pre order club is feasible. But do not pay anything in advance as that money leaves your bank account and goes into someone elses and they get interest on it. I notice some shops already charge full amount for pre ordering. This is wrong imo.
First off i’d guess this is another poly-aftertouch keybed synth.
Second. I was looking at those two massive digital packages in the middle of the analog board. Behringer says they are Xylinx FPGA’s. One possibility is some sort of digital analog hybrid. These are way way overkill for board logic. Another thing that occurs to me is that the original used Motorola 6502 processors to control them. These FPGAs are probable overkill for that too, but you could put multiple 6502s on them, and run them at incredible clock rates. It’s also possible to set the FPGAs up for digital effects. And it’s possible to do combinations of all the above. This still has me wondering a bit.
They’ll have their standard processors for the MIDI and UI interface control as well.
I imagine the next videos will be talking about possible, far in the future, gear that may or may not be made.
This is the thread for ‘Behringer Gear in Progress’ or have I posted these videos to the wrong thread?
I assume all discussions, videos essays, questions and comments about the possible upcoming gear are welcome in this thread.
No one, no company, no internet video maker is making me out to be a fool. No one is pushing fast food on me. There are people who are closely following and rumours, updates, press releases, teaser photos, and the like.
This is great because I can just go to threads like this one to stay informed about the possibilities because people like @Jukka and others will deposit their findings here.
If posting related videos on the subject is wrong, please advise.
There’s a good video that goes through practical musical applications for the original Mutronics Mutator, and explains what it is. The Behringer recreation is of the later one with MIDI. I think most of us here, watching this video will see ways to use this unit.
Also note in the background the multi-color box, which is a Simmons SDS-3 which is also GIP. Behringer has a lot of interesting analog drums underway !
There is a lot of interesting gear used in this video, plus this guy can play, both keyboards and guitar. ( I queued the video a short way in but go ahead and wind it back if you want. ) It’s about 10 minutes long from where i queued it.
ADDED : Tagging this post for search – the video is by Alex Ball.
Man Alex is such an encyclopedia of synths and gear. His Roland doc was really good, and I hope he does some more in that format. I still am amazed by all the stuff he has, even though I’ve seen his studio before. What a collection.
His demonstration with the 303 immediately made me start salivating. It’s going into my rack above the 3rd Dimension if Behringer can nail the sound. This along with the compressor, spring reverb, and mic amplifier has me wondering if we’ll see a flood of studio rack gear coming from them in the near future.
Added, interesting to hear the Behringer is working with some of the original developers. That should help with getting it right, and it also may make it easier for some to know that they can support those people as well.
If y’all don’t want a Behringer, you can track down an electric filter factory which is very midi capable and permits independent control of the r and l filters. But I think used it will be more expensive than the butator. Although it is built like a tank. I’ll likely get a burst or to run B SY-1 through and then decide if I can sell the filter factory which I’ve had since new. Nah….
From the picture a month back with all those Protons it’s reasonable to think that that one will be coming along pretty soon. I have been wondering what the wavefolder on it will be like. There has been a thread recently looking for hardware wavefolders; and there are not a ton of them, so the Proton could fill a niche.
Looking forward to a video, and hearing what it may sound like.
