Weird product. It’s like a WYSIWYG, gimped Deepmind. Lacking 2 envelopes, lfo, ctrl seq, effects, mod matrix while priced similarly. It being the Juno clone series makes me think it might sound very similar too, just without the bells and whistles.
Fair point. I too wonder how much territory the Deepmind can cover this Juno clone.
Crazy! Does not look to bad - and price looks awesome…
Keybed is probably even better than the OG (bought an Juno6 in November last year…).
I wonder why the bcr32 got left behind.
They just released that rubbish BQ10 sequencer instead and cheaped out. Theres a lot of gear that has entered that zone.
Your source ?
its not rocket science. Two sequencers at the same time in production would be errrr stupid?
There’s absolutely no overlap there - the BQ10 is a necessity for Korg/clone (and Hz/V or s-trig use) users and the other thing is completely different … it’s a baffling comparison to draw, besides, they (musictribe) make lots of stuff with massive overlap concurrently so the logic applied there doesn’t scan imho
There’s merit and incredible value in the SQ-10 inspired seq, it’s a shame their MS20 copy (second version) is hamstrung by a huge fading filter resonance issue … otherwise that’d be a terrific combo
The market for the BQ10 is probably tiny by comparison to the BCR thing, but it’s an entirely apples // oranges situation
the good thing about waiting for something a bit longer is that it might favour the notion that it could have had a bit more time to mature in testing, as good as some of their stuff is, it’s clear that some released stuff is not quite there …
So if I understand correctly this is only coming to the US market. No sign of it in EU.
Not sure what the Deepmind uses for oscillators… I don’t know if them copied the OG Juno programmable counter DCO architecture but I’d hazard a guess they’ve implemented that in their clone. The BA662 hadn’t been refabbed by CoolAudio when the DM came out, I suspect they used 13700’s in the filter. So the new Juno should be sporting different oscillators and filters. Oh and an analogue chorus circuit too. I’ve no doubt the DM covers loads of Juno territory but this new model looks to be a more focussed take on the OG. It’ll all come out in the wash no doubt
That might be its exact appeal though. Every other indie band I see live has a Juno on stage, and I think it’s in part because it‘s hands on and simple. You don’t need to know much about synthesis and don’t feel overwhelmed by patching live. Deepmind is more complex and looks less cool. I can see many bands who can’t afford a Juno and just get what‘s popular instead of endlessly researching just buying that Juno clone and calling it a day.
The point would be to recreate the workflow in a machine that has the same specs, high quality audio parts and that same cheapo light on the processor pitch shifting that gave us decades of lovely artefacts.
Low Hiss did a convincing emulation of the ssm filter in software so the gap is diminished between software and hardware. Having all of the work that people have been putting into recreating the sp1200 in a box would be rad. The ISLA S2400 unfortunately is not that box as it is too buggy…
And while it has limitations it’s all sweet spot. I find myself reaching for Air’s Jura plugin all the time for basses and pads, way better than a Moog for my taste.
