I must confess that I am intrigued by this little AKAI thing.

I must confess, with a curious little zing,
I’m intrigued by this tiny Akai thing!

Is it crafty? Is it clever?
Will it groove forever and ever?

Will it blip and will it bop,
Make my head nod—never stop?

Oh what buttons! Oh what swing!
What tricks hide in this little Akai thing?

I’ll press and prod and tap each pad—
And hope the beats it makes are mad!

I personally like the design aesthetic. But what I really hope for is live on the fly looping. I can do this on my MPC One+ but I would prefer a more streamlined approach without using a touch screen. My Ep-133 is so close to what I want but I don’t get instant replay of the loop after sampling it in. If this MPC Sample can do this it would fit my needs/wants. Overdubbing on the loop would be really push me towards purchasing this. I understand the SP-404mk2 is capable of this and have considered it since its release but it has a lot of features I would never use, as is the case with my MPC One. I just want to lay down a beat and sample in and loop my guitar or synth on the fly on in one box, preferably battery powered and no touch screen.

What about the 1010music bento? Dont know if you looked in that piece of gear already?

I notice every small sampler that comes out the threads are saturated with sp 404 users comparing it. I saw the same thing on the Casio sampler threads.

It’s funny the only sampler the sp 404mk 2 is better than is probably the sp 404 sx and I can make arguments for the sx lol.

I guess what im saying is stop comparing the sp 404 to samplers that actually have a play/stop button on them or undo/redo buttons. Not everyone wants to commit to resampling prematurely and listening to the entire song just to get to one part lol.

To be fair it’s comparing a sampler to another sampler! I’ve also seen a lot of KO comparisons, it’s what happens when new products come out.

I wonder how this will compare o the 404MKII?

We’ll never know because we’ve been forbidden from making the comparison by diktat.

I kinda wish this new MPC didn’t have play/stop button! I’ll miss listening to the whole song.

Thats my fear and why im literally posting this. Just enjoy your sp you don’t have to turn everything else into a sp404 because obviously not everyone likes the sp 404 workflow

People here have collectively been saying that this would be the easy choice if they deliver the perks of the sp404 without its workflow, like that would be the appeal of this device. You’ve just conveniently focused directly on the more divisive characteristics of the sp404. Apart from that you’d be lying if you said this didn’t take clear design queues from it. They can be compared.

It’s just a thing, released by a company. Some people will buy it. Many more people won’t. Some of those who buy it will like it, and some won’t. Some will think it’s better or worse than something they already have. Some people will discuss it. Some people will keep it to themselves. It doesn’t matter. It’s really nothing to be afraid of.
