The all things MPC Thread (Part 4)

I don’t care about Akai sampler history, I just want the Loopop video. People that aren’t excited about this possible new piece of consumer electronics could probably find a thread with a piece of consumer electronics they do like.

Gatekeeping you say? Yeah, what’s wrong with creating a decently simple sampling machine?

I think that the 500 was probably a more complete machine than this is shaping up to be (judging from the interface)

Just to confirm the earlier theory, my sweetwater rep indeed confirmed the MPC one plus has been discontinued as of last month. Take from that what you will.

I honestly have no idea what this term means but every time I hear it I think of ghostbusters!

Thomann only has MPC One+ available as B-Stock…

The 500 was a competent MIDI sequencer .

While there is a MIDI config setting visible on the AKAI Sample pictures, there is no way to tell how advanced the MIDI sequencing will be. I don’t see any track selection either.

Yeah the missing track anything button made me wary too.
If this is pattern based like a a Boss/Roland SP, the only similarity between this and the “classic workflow” everyone seems to be talking about is the armrest.

On that note: the 500 wasn’t nearly as bad for working with samples as everyone makes it out to be. Chopping was fairly straightforward with the fader if you made use of the ram available to duplicate a longer sample and trim it instead of cutting out bits like on the 2000. Basically better in every way than on the 60/3000
(but of course I agree that it would have highly profited from two more lines to bring stuff like start/end and filter and amp values on one page.

Let’s see what this is going to be. At the moment it’s simply a toy-looking standalone MPC fly in a box.

The 500 really wasn’t so bad, chopping with numbers + ears was precise and quick once you had the hang of it. What was bad was how the OS was coded… like, the filters were really rough sounding + all kinds of annoying gremlins popping here and there…

Regarding the Sample: pretty sure it will be something like: a bank = a track

I’d say this box is aimed at the new generation of beat maker with a nod to the past.

I’m happy with that so long as it has a streamlined way of working as the one was so detailed it was a mission to learn. That’s good if you want it to do everything but what I like about the sample is it’s pick up and play ability.

Plus the pad fx for live jamming is good to see

Under sample record and seq record it says “recall”

Sorry if this has been discussed but I wonder if that could be like retrospective recording and or skip back?

Regardless im buying one assuming its real lol

My new mpc live 3 doesn’t have track buttons either… you guess might be making a bid deal about nothing. I’m more worried it won’t sound that good… if it doesn’t have the same umph behind it then I don’t really care where I can take this if the sound is weak. That is how I felt about the one and in glad to see that box gone, it just didn’t have the same energy… I’m really curious to hear the XL and if it is better then live 3… My old SE I had wider sound stage then the live 2 I had. They might be about the same though, idk.

How could you not love this thing? :face_holding_back_tears::grin:

I kind of like the idea of making a simpler MPC that is closer to the old workflow, but I really wish they had just made an updated MPC1000 to do that. I wouldn’t have been able to resist.

So much negativity in this thread that I felt it needed some positive vibes.

For years now, people have been asking for an MPC Mini in the MPC Thread. Now that we’re on the verge of one being released, people are bashing it before seeing it like is customary on the internet nowadays.

I always felt that I don’t really need an MPC Mini. I already have the Live 3 and Live 2 both of which are very much portable and great. Why would I need a Mini? What use would I have for such a thing. Not interested. Not at all.

As soon as I saw the pictures of the MPC Sample, I knew I’d buy it instantly on the release day. I’ve had the KO2 and the SP-404mk2 and while I liked them, it was always a hassle to remember how to use them. MPC is my main thing and I know the workflow inside out and love it. Coming from that, I didn’t really enjoy or ever even learn the Roland SP workflow.

But the premise of having a small lightweight portable MPC which I could take me wherever and use as a sketchpad and then transferring those projects onto the big brother at home, feels perfect. I’m very very excited about the MPC Sample and love the look of it. The only thing I’m asking for is compatibility with the current gen of MPCs. No touch screen, no song mode, no step seq - just a small sampler where I could start projects on the run and continue to work on them on my more professional machine.

MPC Sample is right up my alley. Like it was made for me. I love the look of it. I love the arm rest. I love everything about it. Can’t wait for the release.

I might even think about selling my MPC Live 2 Retro for this thing.

All positive opinions from me on this one. I’m in

Yeah I’m excited by it too. When I got back into music production several years back, I purchased the One as my first hardware device. It completely overwhelmed me and the workflow didn’t click for me at all, but the basic sampling and chopping on it were such a blast. So if this workflow is stripped down to mainly that, I’ll absolutely jump on it.

I’ve seen plenty of positivity to be fair. It looks great to me from what we know. It looks a little cramped, but at least that means it’s portable, and it looks like a great travel toy. My only issue will be justifying to myself spending the money when I already own two hardware samplers and tend to use Koala anyway, but that’s a me problem, not an MPC Sample problem!

Yeah that would have been it (currently refurbishing a trash 1000, lots of fun but also not really cheap with parts from the US unfortunately).
