That Tonverk Sound

Thanks. Do you think the Supervoid reverb on the Tonverk sounds different from the one on the DN2 without any additional modulation?

@garf Great sounds! The feedback beat sounds very gnarly, love it

@LyingDalai Nice sound too! Do we hear the arpeggiator here?

No, no arp involved here.

I’m getting more used to it.

There are many ways to get a high feedback, or have huge distorsion.
I still have to come up with a more of less fixed settings for the 4 FX bus so that I know which makes what.

Modulations on FX can surprise you, still, so careful with a modulation on feedback!

I like it that many FX have their own distorsion and filters, it’s really useful.
I love the FX as they are, but add modulations and the combination of them and you get some complex tones, it’s much fun.

Now with all the signal paths available x the plocking possibilities on routing x the modulations, it’s easy to get lost or forget what is doing what, or just destroy your sound.

8 tracks is in fact the right number, to me, as it’s so easy to overcrowd the space.

The learning curve is not as steep as OT’s, but practice is necessary, I feel, to reach some coherent workflow.

There are clips posted here that will show you it’s most likely evolved from the Octatrack.

I would be surprised, if it were different then I would call it different or add a ā€œIIā€ to it or something like this  Maybe someone wants to do a comparison (personally I don’t care in the slightest sry ^_^; )

I remember someone from Elektron (perhaps Ess) saying that the reverb was the same across all boxes, it’s just that the source material was so different. This may be true for TV as well but it’s possible that the new architecture has resulted in a slight difference in sound even with the same source material (say on DT). How much this matters, we will have to see. I can see it becoming a point of argument, like the OT’s sound quality…

… a horrible waste of collective lifetime …

It is not hurting other human beings (perhaps, mildly, psychically) or killing them. Perhaps all we can hope for these days.

Well, sometimes my brain hurts and says ā€œERROR ERRORā€ We can also do positive things, for example make music with the gear we have …

I guess I’m curious because it was mentioned that the filters sounded different. The converters might sound different or the algorithms could sound different in the new platform idk.

@LyingDalai mentioned they thought the Supervoid reverb sounded better. I was curious about your opinion, but I’m not here to waste your time so if it doesn’t matter to you, that’s fine.

Low end is massive on that ambient jam

Yes, that is what we should do, and celebrate each new addition. If it is not for us, no matter, we still have so much to draw from.

When you say evolved what do you mean exactly?

Perfect Track for an after Birthday party of my now 9 yo boy. Beautiful!

Its changed. Higher resolution recording, most likely newer convertors, plenty of new designs and processing. I think a better sounding filter (be interested in an owners call there) ? Is it for the better? Thats for you to decide, but I think it clearly is from what I have heard.

I’ve been very happy with my lack of urge or impulse to purchase this thing. But the music in here is annoyingly good. First impression it Seems to have a lot more depth / heft than the sounds from other elektrons.

As a contrast to those with more refined tastes than mine, here’s a loop from DrumComputer on the iPad, mangled with randomised bus routing and lots of locks for effects and LFOs.

Purely to illustrate what is possible for those who are not restrained by considerations of listener friendliness.

Rough copy of the original loop:

A few bars of the loop as Tonverkised:
