Teenage Engineering Sampler 'Medieval'

made three tracks on the ep1320 today, went a little slower and heavier on these ones than usual. i experimented with the echo master fx on the first one and the reverb master fx on the second one

youre getting a ton out of this. i feel like I need to try out your method and really push each bar and pattern with new ideas.

thank you! yeah i pretty much delete the sequences from groups A(drums) B(bass) and C(melodic/chords) at the start of each new scene. i tend to leave D(percussion) alone to have a consistent connection throughout. sometimes i will leave behind a melodic line or some kicks and snares so i can make a new chord “progression” or percussion groove that still feels in-line with the other stuff, then ill delete those pieces i left behind and make something new.

i kinda wish i was better at finding a groove and letting it ride but i always feel like i gotta switch it all up to keep myself interested

This is one of the coolest instruments to come out in a long time. So stupid and fun! Kinda makes me wish I had a kid to buy this for Xmas but I’ll just have to be that kid I guess

I really appreciate your parks project, although the actual sound of what you’re making there isn’t really my cup of tea.

On the other hand, loving what you’re doing with the Medieval, even though the tunes and ideas seem pretty similar, the samples just seem to carry a different vibe.

thank you! i recently switched to minor keys from all major keys lol, i wonder if that has a piece in it. the samples definitely do bring their own power, they slow me down a bit.

I can’t quite explain, but I so deeply hate this device that is making me hate my EP-133 a bit, by association.

weird! hate sucks!

That’s kind of funny because I hate my ep133 and I love my ep1320 and the 1320 is making me hate my 133 even more…

No, hate is a human feature. Like an arpeggiator. You can use it or not.

That’s interesting - how can you love the 1320 and hate the 133? It’s 90% the same device.

the humans have misled you, hate is a creation of The Man :person_in_lotus_position:

What man?
Which man?
Who’s the man?

Am I a man?

Yes, technically I am

the bard has spoken

yes i’m with you but… i’m not really into sampling first of all, and so the flexibility of the 133 doesn’t really interest me. but the sounds on the 1320 are great, also as basic as it is then the arpeggiator is actually good to have since the ep series so far doesn’t have the classic pocket operator sequencing style of note entry on a grid plus pattern chaining.

overall i just find the 1320 to be funnier, which in return gives me more energy to engage with the workflow that i otherwise despise on the 133…

I see, yes sometimes a device just clicks and you don’t know why… and, perhaps more often, sometimes it should be ideal on paper and you just look at it there sitting and can’t bring yourself to turn it on

newest mixtape! lots of these tracks are made on the ep1320, some on the ep133. i recorded over a self-help tape from the 60s, pieces of it have spoken to me and feel applicable to my current life. other parts reek of the 60s. the 60s are basically medieval times to my young brain

epic tape. the medieval has been out for like week and you already got an hour long mixtape. that’s impressive. 25 minutes in and i haven’t heard anything distinctly medieval but i’m enjoying the tunes.
